Rob's virtual around-the-world cycle in aid of children’s hospice

A 52-year-old cyclist from Bristol is hoping to conquer the world on his bike – without actually leaving the country.

Rob Berry from Bradley Stoke has set off on a virtual 22,187-mile cycle of the globe in aid of Children’s Hospice South West's (CHSW) Be Incredible fundraising appeal.

He started his Lockdown V-autour de Monde on March 26 and has already ‘reached’ Moscow covering a staggering 2,600 miles. His planned route will take him through Europe and China and onto Japan, crossing 6,828 miles of the Pacific Ocean to California, before heading across the USA and the Atlantic Ocean to Dublin

Bob's incredible 10k 10-day challenge for children’s hospice

A Clevedon man has pledged to run 10 10ks in 10 days to raise vital funds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Bob Irwin, a Business Development Manager at Triangle Networks, will be starting his challenge on Sunday, May 10 as part of the charity’s Be Incredible fundraising campaign.

After having to cancel or postpone many of its fundraising events due to the Covid-19 lockdown, CHSW is asking supporters to Be Incredible and do ‘whatever they can, however the can’ to stand with the children and families the charity supports.

A 71-year-old Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) supporter who has ‘done it all for the charity’ is set to take on what could be his biggest challenge yet – without even leaving his house!

Bereaved dad Rick Dean, from Bude, has ran and walked thousands of miles, jumped out an aeroplane and abseiled down one of the UK’s highest waterfalls, raising huge amounts of money for the charity that supported him and his wife Julie following the death of their son Kierran.

This June, despite claiming to be ‘not too keen’ on cycling, he will be taking on a 205-mile three-day static cycle to remember

Children’s Hospice South West has launched a new fundraising appeal in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The charity has had to cancel or postpone many of its fundraising events planned for the coming weeks and months and is looking to find alternative ways of raising the £11million-a-year it needs to run its three hospices in North Devon, North Somerset and Cornwall.

It is asking everyone to ‘ Be Incredible’ and do ‘whatever they can, however they can to help local children and local families who rely on the charity.

A family from North Somerset has been supporting Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) in a variety of ways.

Mum of two, Emily, had the inspired idea to run 10k each day throughout February half term and raise funds for CHSW’s Charlton Farm hospice. Her daughters, Ella 10 and Lilah 8, also embraced the challenge which they completed on a treadmill at their home in Failand.

By setting up an online fundraising page and raising sponsorship, the girls were able to hand over £1,140 to the charity which provides a home from home where children with life-limiting conditions and their families can

Bridgwater golfers club together for local children’s hospice

Female golfers at Bridgwater’s Enmore Park Golf Club have raised nearly £4,000 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

The club’s outgoing ladies’ captain Wendy Walker chose to support CHSW as her charity of the year and money was raised at coffee mornings and ladies’ opens, as well as at a charity fun golf day.

Jailbirds Raise Over £10,000 for CHSW

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) held its annual Jail and Bail fundraising event at Devonport Guildhall in Plymouth on Friday 13 th March which raised an amazing £10,700.38 for the children’s charity.

7 local businesses took part in the event which involved individuals getting arrested and put on trial for fictitious crimes including telling bad jokes, dad dancing and excessive talking.

Richard’s Wish charity funds quiet room refurb at Little Bridge House

A Devon charity set up in memory of a Dawlish teenager has donated £20,000 to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

The money raised by supporters of Richard’s Wish has funded the refurbishment of one of the family rooms at CHSW’s Little Bridge House children’s hospice. It will also help fund bereavement and sibling support, and pay for equipment to support the fundraising team.

The ‘quiet room’ is one of the many havens at the hospice, near Barnstaple in North Devon, where families can relax while enjoying vital respite stays.

Masonic grant presented to Little Bridge House fundraising team

Children’s Hospice South West’s Little Bridge House hospice has been chosen to receive a grant of £940 from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Devonshire Freemasons.

The grant comes through the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF) and will be used to help provide respite care and support for the children and their families at the hospice in Fremington, North Devon.

Contributions from Freemasons to hospices have exceeded £13million in England and Wales since 1984, with £600,000 given this year. Seven hospices in Devon received a share of £7,635.

Syntegon’s pedal power for CHSW

Syntegon Processing & Packaging based in Bristol is a global packaging machinery manufacturer. On top of the day to day challenges the Syntegon team set themselves a challenge to cycle from Land’s End to John O Groats on static exercise bikes located in the office. The challenge was to raise money for local charity, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Over the course of five days the team cycled 1,500km and raised £2,734.
