Needleworkers create handmade quilts for hospice

A group of volunteer needleworkers have been using their talents to create stunning homemade quilts for a children’s hospice.

Project Linus, a group of needlewomen based across the UK, handed over a number of quilts to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

The colourful quilts will be used at CHSW's Charlton Farm children's hospice.

Children and young people using the hospice are also able to take the quilts home with them.

Members of the Bath, Wells and surrounding areas Linus Group which handcrafted the items, popped into the hospice to present the quilts to staff.

Local company helps hospice volunteers with PPE distribution

Volunteers in North Devon helping to distribute vital PPE equipment to hospices across the South West have been given a helping hand by a local removal firm.

Essential PPE supplies, including face masks and shields, hand gel, aprons and clinical waste bags are delivered to Children’s Hospice South West’s Little Bridge House children’s hospice in Fremington, where it is processed, repackaged and sent to 10 other adult and children’s hospices, including North Devon Hospice in Barnstaple

Volunteers needed for new Sidmouth charity shop

Sidmouth’s new Children’s Hospice South West charity shop is looking for volunteers to help following a successful opening earlier this month.

The shop in Fore Street opened its doors for the first time on August 12 and is appealing for help from the local community following a busy first few weeks.

Manager Emma-Louise Lee said she was delighted that people in Sidmouth were supporting the new shop, which has opened in the former New Look shop.

Barnstaple Rotarians plant crocuses at children’s hospice to mark World Polio Day

Members of the Rotary Club of Barnstaple Link have been busy planting crocus bulbs at Little Bridge House to mark World Polio Day on Thursday, October 24.

Club president Ralph Gordon and four fellow Rotarians planted 250 bulbs at the entrance of the children’s hospice in Fremington as part of Rotary International’s campaign to raise awareness of efforts to eradicate polio.

When they flower towards the end of Februray, the grounds of the Children’s Hospice South West hospice will be carpeted in purple crocuses.

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), which runs Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell, has been celebrating the work of its dedicated community volunteers while searching for more to join.

A few weeks ago the hospice ran its annual Friends Group Conference. This event gave various members of Little Harbour’s fundraising team and care team the opportunity to thank community volunteers from Cornwall and Plymouth for their hard work. They were also updated on the focusses of the charity for the next year.

Creating magical Christmas memories

An innovative photographic project that started on the other side of the world has been bringing Christmas smiles to families staying at CHSW’s Little Bridge House and Charlton Farm hospices.

The Christmas Wish project started in 2016 as part of the heART Project, a collaboration between award-winning Australian photographer Karen Alsop and a group of volunteer photographers.

The project has quickly gained worldwide attention and digital artists and photographers from Barnstaple, Portishead and Bristol have joined forces to bring The Christmas Wish to the UK for the first time.

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is delighted being Bristol Airport’s charity partner again for 2018. Each year Airport staff are asked to vote and support one charity and, for the fourth consecutive year, CHSW is the nominated charity of the year.

Last year alone the partnership raised over £25k and fundraising activities are continuing in 2018; the next activity arranged is on 28 th July when eight Bristol Airport team members will walk 80k in just one day! A golf day is also arranged in September challenging business partners and suppliers to compete against the Bristol Airport team.
