Staff, volunteers and customers at Children’s Hospice South West’s Brixham charity shop have been celebrating a successful first five years in the town.

The shop in Fore Street opened in February 2015 and has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds to support local children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

More than 26,000 bags of donated goods have been sorted, with 54,000 pre-loved items given a new lease of life. Volunteers have donated nearly 26,000 hours to support the shop.

The shop, which also has its own vintage and retro area downstairs, is so well supported by people

Children’s Hospice South West will be opening the charity's newest shop in Exmouth at 11am on April 9.

The town centre shop, based at 35 The Parade, next door to Iceland, will offer a range of goods, including women’s, men’s and children’s clothing and accessories, as well as children’s toys and games and homewares.

It will be open seven-days-a-week, 9am-5pm Monday to Saturday, and 10.30am to 4.30pm on Sundays. Every item sold will help the charity to offer vital care and respite to more than 500 children with life-limiting conditions and their families across the South West.

Syntegon Processing & Packaging based in Bristol is a global packaging machinery manufacturer. On top of the day to day challenges the Syntegon team set themselves a challenge to cycle from Land’s End to John O Groats on static exercise bikes located in the office. The challenge was to raise money for local charity, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Over the course of five days the team cycled 1,500km and raised £2,734.

Plymouth singer songwriter Blake Sonnet has penned and recorded a song to motivate those running the London marathon in April, including old school friend Nicola Hague who inspired him into creating the track.

The Exeter office of private and commercial bank, Arbuthnot Latham will be supporting Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) as its charity of the year for 2020 and 2021.

The team, based in Southernhay Gardens, said they were looking forward to working with CHSW and had a number of fundraising events planned, including a business breakfast, local gin and wine tasting evenings, and a quiz night.

Throughout the year Grosvenor staff members held countless company-wide events with some taking part CHSW’s own events including the 5k Rainbow Run as well as the gruelling 205-mile cycle challenge, Ride for Precious Lives. A concert by the Devon Philharmonic Orchestra at Exeter Cathedral has raised £756.65 for Children’s Hospice South West.

The orchestra, formerly known as the EMG Symphony Orchestra, held a collection during the performance on November 2.

Audiences enjoyed an evening of classical music in the majestic surrounds of the cathedral, with conductor, Leo Geyer and soloist, Philippa Mo.

The performance featured Ligeti’s ‘Lontano’, Dvorak’s Violin Concerto and Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony.

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) opened a new shop at Unit 2 Townsend Road on 14 th February at 10am.

The ribbon was cut by CHSW’s Director of Finance, Jonathan Webber. Also in attendance were the Retail Area Manager, Rhian Timms, and CHSW’s Head of Retail, Chris Judd. The youngest customers were from First Steps Nursery in the town who enjoyed being part of the opening and exploring the children’s section of the store!

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is challenging people to take to the coast path this spring for an ‘incredible’ new fundraising event for local families.

The charity’s 10-mile sponsored Incredible Hike from Morwenstow to Hartland Quay takes place on Sunday, April 26.

Walkers will be fuelled by Cornish and Devon cream teas at checkpoints in both counties, and rewarded with medals at a finish line barbecue, as well as breath-taking views throughout.

Children’s Hospice South West is calling on businesses to go head-to-head and take on its £50 Challenge this spring.

The charity is giving workplace teams an initial £50 and tasking them to see how much money they can raise in just 50 working days, from March 2 to May 13.

Around 60 teams took part in last autumn’s £50 Challenge, raising more than £20,000 for the charity, which supports more than 500 children with life-limiting conditions and their families across the South West.
