At the end of 2018, two members of Clevedon-based Triangle Networks visited their local children’s hospice – Charlton Farm in Wraxall - having decided they were going to run a half marathon and raise funds to support the cause. They came away from their visit inspired to do more and pledged to take on, not just one, but 12 half marathons!

Bob Irwin, Sales Director, and Jamie Butt, Business Development Manager, put their bodies on the line and completed their set of half marathons throughout 2019 and have raised a total of £1,480.00 so far.

Keynsham Chicks keep knitting!

Members of the renowned Keynsham Chicks knitting group visited Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) on its January Open Day and presented the charity with a cheque for £1,426.

The group are dedicated to raising vital funds for CHSW’s Charlton Farm hospice which supports families from the local area whose children have been diagnosed with life-limiting conditions. These funds bring the total raised by the group to over £11,000 in 3 years.

Show some love for children’s hospice this Valentine’s Day

Couples are being invited to show some love for Children’s Hospice South West this Valentine’s Day.

Queen Anne’s Café on the Strand in Barnstaple is holding a Valentine’s Dinner and Dance in aid of the charity on Friday, February 14.

Diners can enjoy canapes and prosecco on arrival, followed by a two-course dinner and live music by 1940’s-inspired harmony trio The Marionettes. There will also be a raffle and auction in aid of CHSW, which offers respite to nearly 200 families at its Little Bridge House children’s hospice in Fremington.

Villagers in Upton in Somerset have helped raise nearly £2,000 for Children’s Hospice South West.

Most of the money was raised at October’s annual Marrow Sunday Charity Auction at the Lowtrow Cross Inn. The annual auction, which been running for more than 25 years, took a year off last year but made a welcome return in 2019.

Of the £1,925 total, £500 was raised by local resident Kevin Hancock’s sponsored head shave.

Walk Harbour to Harbour for Little Harbour

A fundraising group based in Truro are organising a sponsored walk called Harbour to Harbour to raise funds for Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) Little Harbour in St Austell.

The walk is happening on Sunday 19 th April with three different routes and distances making it something that everyone can get involved in. Routes include 12 miles from Devoran to Portreath, 9 miles from Bissoe to Portreath or 5 miles from Scorrier to Portreath.

Peter Shore from Glastonbury has written a non-fictional account of drama and scandal during World War One. Entitled War Widow and Child, the tragic story of scandal in a normal family has gained critical acclaim.

Peter volunteers for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) shop in Glastonbury and was keen to raise funds for the charity through sales of his work. For every paperback sold, £1 will go to CHSW and for every e-book purchased, 50p will go to the charity.

Take on Exmoor’s ‘ultimate challenge’ for North Devon’s two hospice charities

People are being invited to put their map reading, endurance and teamwork skills to the test in support of North Devon’s two hospice charities.

North Devon Hospice and Children’s Hospice South West support hundreds of local families facing the most unimaginable challenges every day – and on Saturday, March 7, people can give something back by taking on what’s being billed as Exmoor’s ultimate night-time orienteering challenge.

Places for Ilfracombe Rotary Club’s 27th annual StarTrek are filling up fast, with more than 20 teams already signed up to take part.

Gordano Sharks bag donations

On Saturday 21 December, members of the Under 12s Gordano Sharks rugby team spent three hours bag-packing at Waitrose in Portishead to raise funds for the club and for local charity, Children’s Hospice South West.

Duncan, one of the team’s dedicated coaches, said: “It was a pleasure to give something back and the boys loved raising money for the charity which has for many years supported our honorary player, Freddie, and his family.”

Thirty percent of the total raised was donated to CHSW, which amounted to a wonderful £212.19.

Intrepid entrepreneur takes on overseas challenges

Rob Vivian, CEO of Clevedon-based telecoms company, PureComms, has been a staunch supporter of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) for many years. In 2016 Rob embarked upon a 2-day trek to reach the 4101m high peak of Mount Kinabalu in Borneo. Persistent tropical rain meant the group he was with was prevented from completing the final 400m ascent to the summit, however, Rob and his trekking companion Chris Hall raised over £4,380 for CHSW. In 2017 the duo took on another epic challenge – walking across Costa Rica from the Pacific to the Atlantic coast and raised £3,657.

Christmas Raffle winner’s generous gift to children’s hospice

The lucky winner of Children’s Hospice South West’s Christmas Raffle has handed £500 back to the charity.

Long-time supporter Yvonne Scott, 88, from Northam in North Devon, scooped the top prize of £2,500 in the charity’s December draw.

But said she wanted to use some of her winnings to help pay for trips out for children and families staying at the Little Bridge House hospice in nearby Fremington.
