St Austell calendar raising funds for Little Harbour

A calendar full of images taken of St Austell and the surrounding area is being sold to raise funds for Little Harbour children’s hospice at Porthpean.


St Austell Friends’ facebook group ran a competition in June for its 10,500 members, where page followers were asked to submit a photo from the local area. Followers could then vote for their favourite and the 12 photos with the most votes are being included in the calendar.
The photos chosen for inclusion in the group’s 6th annual calendar capture picturesque scenes around the area including Cornish sunsets, fishing boats, china clay pits

Sports therapist raises cash for children's hospice

Plymouth-based sports therapist, and owner of JK Rehab, Janis Krogzems has recently raised £191 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) following a weekend supporting the charity.


Over 4 – 5 September Janis ran various free sports therapy sessions, workshops and appointments at his centre in Ernesettle in Plymouth and donated all the money given by clients to the local childen’s charity.

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) marked its milestone 30th anniversary on Saturday (9 Oct) by hosting a celebratory dinner and dance at Bristol Museum.


The event was kindly sponsored by one of Bristol’s top independent financial planning firms, Brunel Capital Partners, and was attended by businesspeople, long-term supporters and service users of CHSW.


Guests were treated to a three-course meal and entertained by The Liberty Sisters singing jazz and swing classics.

Dawlish couple’s garden blooms in memory of grandson Stanley

A green-fingered couple from Dawlish have been showing off their beautiful garden to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Alan and Jenny King raised £867 for CHSW in memory of their grandson Stanley, who had a life-limiting condition called Tay-Sachs Disease and died at the charity’s Little Bridge House children’s hospice in June 2019, aged four.

The hospice, near Barnstaple in North Devon, provided regular respite for the family, helping them to create cherished memories together and offering ongoing bereavement support after Stanley died.

Zumba Fundraiser Raises £560

A Zumba fundraising party held at Lanivet Community Centre on Friday 17 September has raised over £500 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).


Attendees of Zumba with Jeanie classes were inspired by CHSW’s 90’s themed celebrations for its 30th anniversary and organised their own zumba party to help raise funds for the local children’s charity. Along with the Zumba they also organised a cake sale to bring in extra donations.

RAF veteran Arthur takes to the skies to celebrate 90th

AN RAF veteran has celebrated his 90th birthday by doing a skydive for Children’s Hospice South West and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Arthur Bennett, from Barnstaple, is no stranger to jumping out of aeroplanes – he did a skydive for CHSW and North Devon Hospice in 2018 – but his latest tandem jump at Dunkeswell Airfield, near Honiton, came just days after turning 90 on September 16.

“It’s a fantastic feeling freefalling at 15,000ft and the views of Devon and Cornwall were marvellous,” said Arthur, a former RAF senior aircraftsman.

Bananaman's 30-mile litterpick

On October 30, Kevin Doherty from Yeovil is planning to take part in a sponsored litter pick for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW). But it won’t be any old litter pick, Kevin will be covering 30 miles from Yeovil to Weymouth and he’ll be dressed as Bananaman!


It won’t be the first time Kevin has raised charity funds in this way. The idea was born in 2019 as a fundraiser for Veganuary which saw him collecting 44 bags of litter over 2 days and covering 20 miles - litterpicking from Yeovil to Dorchester. In October 2020 he did the litterpick in reverse, walking from Dorchester back to Yeovil

Summer of fundraising in memory of Oliver

This summer has seen multiple fundraising events held in Plymouth in memory of 11 year old Oliver Brown, which have raised over £24,000 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).


Oliver, from Plymouth, died in November 2019 after a three year battle with a rare blood cancer and was supported by Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) at it’s Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell.


Since Oliver’s death his family have been fundraising hard for the charity and its hospices. Oliver’s Mum Nicky explains the support they received and why they want to give back;

£20,000 raised at Moonlight Memory Walk

Saturday night saw the return of Children’s Hospice South West’s Moonlight Memory Walk to Falmouth.


150 people walked the five mile route around the town, as well as others who took part virtually, in memory of their loved ones. £20,000 was raised in sponsorship for the charity which runs three children’s hospices; Little Bridge House, Charlton Farm and Little Harbour.


Before the walk began at 10pm a memory ceremony was held in Kimberley Park, and live streamed on facebook for those who took part virtually. The ceremony included poems and readings from hospice staff, words from two families

Girling Jones golf day is another huge hit for hospice

The movers and shakers of the South West construction industry came together to raise funds for Children’s Hospice South West at the third annual Girling Jones Golf Day last week.

The event at Exeter Golf and Country Club on September 23 raised a massive £9,000 for the charity, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2021.

Exeter-based construction recruitment consultancy Girling Jones is a huge supporter of CHSW, raising thousands of pounds since the company was established more than 10 years ago. The first golf day in 2018 raised £7,500, while the 2019 event raised £8,700.
