Tree planted in memory of Howard Rosevear

A tree has been planted at Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell in memory of a local man who donated the land for the hospice to be built.

Howard Rosevear, who died in February aged 87, generously gifted the land at Porthpean to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) in 2008.

This week a Sorbus tree, kindly donated by St Austell Soroptimists, was planted by CHSW Co-Founder and Chief Executive Eddie Farwell and Howard’s children Kathryn, Helen and Ivan. It has taken pride of place alongside a tree planted in 2016 in memory of Howard’s wife Shirley.

Tales of the unique community of Somerset have been unveiled in new book called ‘ Deepest Somerset’ - the proceeds from which will benefit three local charities.


The book, written by Fanny Charles and Gay Pirrie-Weir, has an introduction by His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, and has been funded by Lord Rothermere’s Rothermere Foundation. Its contributors include some famous names including Michael Eavis, Cameron Mackintosh, and Alice, Julian and Matilda Temperley.

Spectacular Santa run set for big return this December

Children’s Hospice South West’s spectacular Santas on the Run Goes Freestyle will be returning this December.

More than 2,000 people took part in the last festive 2k fun runs around the Eden Project in Cornwall, RHS Garden Rosemoor in Devon, and Lloyds Amphitheatre in Bristol in 2019, raising nearly £80,000 in support of the charity’s three children’s hospice.

Last year during lockdown, more than 1,000 people raised a massive £75,000 by taking part in a virtual Santa run but this year, CHSW fundraiser Kiley Pearce hopes an army of fun runners and walkers will be back at Rosemoor and Eden, and

Mark Master Masons donate £29k to Children’s Hospice South West

Freemasons from across the West Country have made a very special £29,000 donation to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) in memory of HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

A total of 29 Mark lodges from across the region each nominated a local CHSW hospice to receive a share of a £1.3million wider grant from the Mark Benevolent Fund, the official charity of the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons. Money was distributed to more than 250 hospices across England and Wales to celebrate the life of the Duke, himself a Freemason, who died in April.

The Apex City of Bath Hotel is supporting Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) by inviting people to enjoy a cream tea at its luxurious hotel.


Available up until the end of September, customers can choose from a selection of teas, coffees, and beautiful buttery scones for just £8.50 per person. For every cream tea sold, Apex Hotels will donate £1 to CHSW, however customers are welcome to donate above and beyond this amount if they so wish.

Community cream tea raises £1,800

Tucker’s Grave in Faulkland welcomed lots of people to its new café bar on the afternoon of Saturday 11 September to enjoy a cream tea in support of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).


The event was organised by Dawn Chapman, HR & Health & Safety Manager at Tucker’s, with the backing of Landlady Jo Watts and the team and Ali Jones, with generous support from suppliers and friends.


Dawn said: “What a day! I am humbled at the generosity of others to enable us to exceed a total of £1,800 raised for CHSW.

Exeter Chiefs Foundation partners with CHSW for new rugby season

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is excited to announce the charity has been partnered with the Exeter Chiefs Foundation, the official club charity of the Exeter Chiefs.

CHSW is one of 25 designated charities invited to hold bucket collections during the Chiefs’ matches at Sandy Park for the forthcoming rugby season.

Collections by CHSW volunteers will be held at Women's Allianz Premier 15s matches against Wasps on October 2, and Harlequins on January 15.

CHSW area fundraiser Henrietta Olsson said volunteers were being sought to help with collections at both games.

£8000 raised at half marathon for children's hospice

Runners were excited to be back at Britain’s Ocean City half marathon, 10k and 5k in Plymouth on Sunday.

The event had been postponed several times due to the pandemic but thousands took part including 50 runners raising funds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).


This year marks CHSW’s 30th anniversary so the fundraising team were delighted to have so many runners donning a CHSW running vest and pounding the Plymouth route covering 13 miles and raising awareness and funds for the local charity.


Over £8000 was raised by those running in support of CHSW including over £400 raised by CHSW

Redruth hosting charity boxing bout

19 September will see Redruth Cricket Club hosting a charity boxing match; Boxing in the Bowl.


This event will be raising funds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW); a charity supporting local children with life limiting illnesses, and Man Down; a charity supporting mens mental health in Cornwall.


Boxing in the Bowl will consist of 10 bouts of boxing by local boxers, each competing in their relevent weight categories.


All the boxers have been training hard in the lead up to the event, fitting in sessions between work and family life. Everyone involved is keen to give a good show to
