Dartmouth rowers take up the challenge in memory of Tillie

Female rowers from Dartmouth Amateur Rowing Club have raised an ‘oarsome’ £18,000 for Children’s Hospice South West – in just seven months!

They set themselves a number of challenges – both on and off the water – in memory of Tillie Pichowski, who received care at the charity’s Little Bridge House hospice in North Devon.

Light Up a Life 2018 to get star treatment at Barnstaple Christmas lights switch-on

The 2018 Light Up a Life appeal is set to get star billing at Barnstaple’s Christmas Lights switch-on this Sunday (November 18).

The 22nd annual joint fundraising appeal for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) and North Devon Hospice (NDH) will be launched on the big stage at 5pm, before the main switch-on at 6pm.

Families who have been supported by the two hospices will light a giant star in the Square; stars will also be lit at each hospice and at the office of the North Devon Gazette office, which has supported the appeal every year since its inception.

Tayen picked to open Christmas Tree farm

Seven year old Tayen, from Bridgwater, has a genetic condition known as Neurofibromatosis Type 1. The condition is incurable, and causes tumours to grow on nerves anywhere in her body. She has epilepsy and hydrocephalus, is completely blind, and has already endured several rounds of chemotherapy. She and her family visit Charlton Farm for respite breaks, and her mum Kali told us what the hospice means to Tayen: “She loves everyone there, she gets so excited. We stay there as a family, although when we’re there, Tayen doesn’t want me or her dad or her brothers near her.

Magical Exeter money experts turn £50 into nearly £7k for children’s hospice

There is a new team of entrepreneurs topping the 2018 Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) £50 Challenge leaderboard.

Financial experts at Prydis clearly have all the right skills when it comes to maximising investments – a team from the Exeter branch has turned £50 into £6,765 for the charity, which provides respite for families of children with life-limiting conditions throughout the South West.
