Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is partnering with Bristol-based National Friendly Financial Solutions (NFFS) and holding an exclusive business event at St George’s Bristol on Wednesday November 24, from 3pm-5pm.

Lydgate House Hotel at Postbridge on Dartmoor recently took part in The Big South West Cream Tea to raise funds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

Guests enjoyed sampling their scones and tea on the terrace of the late Victorian country house which has stunning views over Dartmoor, and raised £107 for CHSW in the process.

Beach yoga sessions benefit children’s hospice

Beach yoga classes in Bude have helped raise £350 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

The regular morning sessions on Summerleaze beach have been run by yoga teacher Claire Jennings since the spring and have carried on into the autumn thanks to the recent spell of good weather.

Claire said the socially-distanced classes have been a great way for people to be able to get together again safely as Covid lockdown rules eased this year.

“Beach yoga classes are so good for the soul, with sandy toes, sunny hearts and the ocean as your backdrop,” she said.

Staff at Children’s Hospice South West’s Charlton Farm in North Somerset were delighted to receive 72 teddies from charity, Teddies for Loving Care (TLC).


TLC, operated by and funded with donations from Freemasons, donates teddies to A&E departments and hospices in their specific regions.


Richard Ellis and Roger Penny, the TLC coordinator for Somerset and both members of Somerset Freemasons, were keen to ensure that Charlton Farm in Wraxall – Somerset’s only dedicated hospice facility for children - received the teddies.

Mark’s 60-hour world record bass guitar playing attempt raises thousands for children’s hospice

A Bideford musician has raised £3,694 for Children’s Hospice South West by playing bass guitar for 60 hours non-stop.

Mark Edwards’ emotional two-and-a-half day world record attempt over the August Bank Holiday weekend saw him play a rotating list of 86 songs at the Fairway Buoy in Westward Ho!

He already holds the Guinness World Record for non-stop bass playing, clocking up 41 hours and 41 minutes in 2018, raising more than £3,000 for CHSW. And Mark will find out if he’s broken his own record with his latest ‘Bassathon’ when the attempt is officially verified later this year.

St Austell calendar raising funds for Little Harbour

A calendar full of images taken of St Austell and the surrounding area is being sold to raise funds for Little Harbour children’s hospice at Porthpean.


St Austell Friends’ facebook group ran a competition in June for its 10,500 members, where page followers were asked to submit a photo from the local area. Followers could then vote for their favourite and the 12 photos with the most votes are being included in the calendar.

Sports therapist raises cash for children's hospice

Plymouth-based sports therapist, and owner of JK Rehab, Janis Krogzems has recently raised £191 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) following a weekend supporting the charity.


Over 4 – 5 September Janis ran various free sports therapy sessions, workshops and appointments at his centre in Ernesettle in Plymouth and donated all the money given by clients to the local childen’s charity.

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) marked its milestone 30th anniversary on Saturday (9 Oct) by hosting a celebratory dinner and dance at Bristol Museum.


The event was kindly sponsored by one of Bristol’s top independent financial planning firms, Brunel Capital Partners, and was attended by businesspeople, long-term supporters and service users of CHSW.

Dawlish couple’s garden blooms in memory of grandson Stanley

A green-fingered couple from Dawlish have been showing off their beautiful garden to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Alan and Jenny King raised £867 for CHSW in memory of their grandson Stanley, who had a life-limiting condition called Tay-Sachs Disease and died at the charity’s Little Bridge House children’s hospice in June 2019, aged four.

The hospice, near Barnstaple in North Devon, provided regular respite for the family, helping them to create cherished memories together and offering ongoing bereavement support after Stanley died.

Little Bridge House is a
