Kelly House in Kelly, Lifton has opened its gardens this Summer and is providing the opportunity to enjoy a socially distanced afternoon tea, which will also raise funds to support a local children’s charity.

The Picnic Teas, consisting of a savoury cream tea, sandwiches and homemade cakes, will be offered in the picturesque gardens of Kelly House on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 2pm to 4.30pm through to September. Visitors will be asked to pre-book via Kelly House’s website and it will cost £10 per person, £2.50 of which will be donated to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

44 year old Zoe Harris from Menheniot has used lockdown as an opportunity to rediscover her love for sport and the outdoors while also raising vital funds for an important local charity.

Throughout May Zoe challenged herself to walk 100 miles, embracing the chance to get outdoors she managed to clock up an impressive 205 miles by the end of the month. This spurred her on to her next challenge; cycling 1084 miles in 12 weeks, the equivalent distance of Lands End to John O’Groats.

This Friday (July 31) Jack Buncombe, originally from Weston-super-Mare, will be running his 365th consecutive 5k!

Jack said: “I've ran every day from August 1st 2019 for a year - including on birthdays, Christmas, after nights out, etc. Some days it even has been more than 5km because I was also training for some long-distance events. My total is currently 1,367 miles.”

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is inviting people to remember and celebrate the life of a loved one and raise vital funds for the charity.

A Memories by Moonlight ceremony will be broadcast live on Facebook from CHSW’s Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell at 9pm on Saturday, September 26, giving people the opportunity to light a candle and join together virtually for a special evening of reflection.

The poignant and uplifting ceremony will feature readings from all three of the charity’s children’s hospices – Little Harbour, Charlton Farm near Bristol and Little Bridge

Social isolation is not new to families caring for children with life-limiting conditions. Many are used to long hospital stays far from home, long periods of illness preventing normal daily activities, being unable to attend school due to health needs, and sacrificing social interactions due to care needs.

But the Covid lockdown has brought many new and often terrifying challenges to these families, many of whom have seen care packages fall away and their wider support networks disappear in the wake of the global pandemic.

Sarah Johnston and daughter, Ella, 16 from Portishead have been creating face masks and selling them in the community with profits going to local charity, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

In 2019, both Sarah and Ella were hospitalised with Dengue fever, a virus with similar symptoms to coronavirus – this experience inspired them to do something to help prevent the spread of coronavirus and support CHSW at the same time.

After the disappointment of having to cancel its three Rainbow Run’s in Newquay, Exeter and Bristol this summer the Fundraising Team at Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) decided to give supporters the option to take part in the event virtually.

Over the weekend of 20-21 June around 2000 people across the region completed their own 5k some walking, running, swimming, rowing and scooting and all raising vital cash for CHSW. A Bristol man’s muscle-pumping lockdown challenge is raising hundreds of pounds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Patrick Connolly, from St George, has pledged to do 20 push-ups or more a day until he raises £1,000 for the charity, which is asking people to ‘ Be Incredible’ and do ‘whatever they can, however they can’ to help combat a loss in fundraising due to coronavirus.

Patrick, 37, started his ‘twenty21000' push-up challenge on March 25 and is set to hit 100 days of press-ups this week, raising more than £700 of his £1,000 target.

Cleaning equipment supply company The Cleaning Collective has lent its support to Children's Hospice South West.

The company said it recognised the extra strain put on the charity’s essential fundraising activities due to the coronavirus pandemic and wanted to do something to help.

So as part of its Hospice Campaign, the Scarborough-based company is donating five per cent of online sales of home and business cleaning products to chosen hospice partners.
