Bristol City staff take on 1894 Challenge for CHSW

The #1894Challenge will see members of the Robins backroom team attempt to clock up 1,894 kilometres between them before December 18th via exercise compliant with Public Health guidance on COVID-19.

All proceeds from the sponsored challenge, recorded via fitness app STRAVA, will go to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) Charlton Farm, which provides the highest level of care, clinical expertise and enrichment opportunities for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

Volunteers in North Devon helping to distribute vital PPE equipment to hospices across the South West have been given a helping hand by a local removal firm.

Essential PPE supplies, including face masks and shields, hand gel, aprons and clinical waste bags are delivered to Children’s Hospice South West’s Little Bridge House children’s hospice in Fremington, where it is processed, repackaged and sent to 10 other adult and children’s hospices, including North Devon Hospice in Barnstaple

Although new to running, John Taylor from Henbury in Bristol is attempting to cover 10 kilometres a week for 10 weeks in support of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

John age 72 started running during the first lockdown with the aid of a ‘couch to 5k’ app. Having completed the running plan, John continued to run greater distances and has been challenged by his wife, Kate, to use his new-found hobby to raise vital funds for a charity close to their hearts.

Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) Memories by Moonlight virtual event has raised £26,000 for the charity that has seen a considerable drop in income due to the pandemic.


Memories by Moonlight was sponsored by National Friendly and was made into a regional, virtual event when the physical event usually held as a memory walk in Falmouth, Cornwall had to be cancelled this year.

Funds for Hospice Raised in Memory of Oliver Brown

A young boy from Plymouth who died last year has inspired incredible fundraising in his local community which has raised over £4000 for a local charity.


Oliver Brown from Plymstock died on 2nd November 2019 age 11, following a 3 year battle with a rare blood cancer. Oliver was supported by, and died at, Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell which is run by Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW). Little Harbour is the local children’s hospice for children with life limiting conditions from across Plymouth and Cornwall.

North Somerset couple offers exclusive Christmas shopping experience

Paul and Renate O’Donnell have kicked off their annual Woodnthings Christmas Fayre at their home in Cleeve, North Somerset. Running until 20 December, the couple have adapted the festive extravaganza in line with government guidelines and viewings will be by appointment only.


The creative couple will showcase many items made by themselves as well as other local craftspeople including handmade wood carvings, mirrors, decorations and cards. A percentage of takings will be donated to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) and Cancer Research UK.

Bodmin based Johnny Hesnan recently completed a 55 mile ultra-marathon and has raised over £3000 to be donated to two local causes.


Johnny had originally signed up to take part in the Coast to Coast ultra-marathon which would have seen him run 63 miles from Dawlish to Minehead in July. Sadly due to Covid this event was postponed. Johnny’s second race option was also then cancelled leaving him with the tough decision of whether to wait until next year to take on one of these events or to put his training into practice and create his own route, which is exactly what he did.

Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) annual Santas on the Run event is back but not as you know it! Taking place over the weekend of the 11-13 December, supporters will be able to choose their distance, route and their festive dress.

The annual festive fundraiser usually takes place on Bristol Harbourside, at Cornwall's Eden Project and RHS Garden Rosemoor in North Devon but the local children’s charity has taken the decision to hold it virtually this Christmas due to the pandemic.

Lesley Milner, mum of Keira aged 5 months, is hoping to raise £35k for a host of charities that have supported them since Keira was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Brave teenager defies the bullies with charity head shave for children’s hospice

A teenage girl from Cullompton who was bullied for having short hair has shaved it all off and raised more than £1,000 for Children’s Hospice South West.

Kisa Benson, 14, knew she’d be mocked for her radical new look but said raising money for the charity was ‘more important than a few mean comments’.

She said: “The charity means a lot to me so it was the right thing to do. You just need to keep your head held high and not let the bullies win.”
