School children climbing UK peaks for Children’s Hospice South West

Two Devon schoolchildren have scaled the first of two UK mountains to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Brother and sister Bodie and Gracie Blake, from Ideford, near Kingsteignton, spent the first weekend of their Easter holidays in Cumbria scaling Scafell Pike, England’s highest peak. They are due to head to Scotland to tackle Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest, in their summer holidays.

Bodie, aged 11 and Gracie, aged nine, were joined by mum Rachel and dad Steve and made it to the top and back down in just four hours, 27 minutes, despite deep snow and fog at the summit.

World record-breaker Mark's 100-mile three-legged walk for children's hospice

A Bideford world record holder has set himself a new challenge as he looks to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West.

Mark Edwards will be channelling school sports day with a 100-mile three-legged walk over the Easter weekend.

Starting on the morning of Good Friday (April 19), Mark will do 400 laps of Bideford Sports Ground – the equivalent of Bideford to Bristol – non-stop over 50 hours, finishing on Easter Sunday afternoon.

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), which runs Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell, has been celebrating the work of its dedicated community volunteers while searching for more to join.

A few weeks ago the hospice ran its annual Friends Group Conference. This event gave various members of Little Harbour’s fundraising team and care team the opportunity to thank community volunteers from Cornwall and Plymouth for their hard work. They were also updated on the focusses of the charity for the next year.

The International Bike Show is back at a new venue

The 10 th International Nailsea Bike Show is taking place on 21 st & 22 nd September at a new venue, the Ring O’Bells on St Mary’s Grove, Nailsea.

As always, the Show will have a wide and varied selection of bikes on show, from 1940s Indians to modern sports bikes and customs. There will be a full programme of events on both the Saturday and Sunday with lots to see and do.

Teignmouth mum to run ‘bucket list’ marathon in London in aid of hospice charities

A Teignmouth mum is taking part in this month’s Virgin Money London Marathon to raise money for two very special hospice charities.

Lisa Ross, 43, is running her first ever marathon in aid of Children’s Hospice South West, which has three children’s hospices in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset, and Rowcroft Hospice, which is based in Torquay and supports adults living with life-limiting conditions in South Devon.

She said she felt extremely lucky to have earned a ballot place for the world-famous road race at the second time of asking.

Paula’s special reason for running Bath Half

Bath Half Marathon is one of the longest established and most popular half marathons in the UK. This year, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) was delighted to be the local charity partner with a team of 240 running in support of them. One of those runners was Paula, age 51 from Oldland Common in South Gloucestershire.

Paula took up running 16 months ago after losing 11 stone in weight. She tried to convince her personal trainer that she wouldn’t ever run, but soon enough Paula was finding herself completing the odd 5k, followed by some 10k runs. She said “After running the Birmingham 10k

£20,000 Pledged at 10th Moonlight Memory Walk

Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) 10 th anniversary Moonlight Memory Walk was held on Saturday 30 th March in Falmouth and £20,000 was pledged in sponsorship to the children’s charity by the 300 people that took part.

To celebrate the event’s special anniversary this year it was moved to a spring date and was also opened up for men to take part as well as women.

This year also marked the first year that people could get involved with the event virtually. Some completed their 5 mile walk in their own time and then watched the event through a facebook live broadcast on the night. Others

Three members of JL Corporate based in Portishead have climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and raised funds for local charity, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

James Lake, Barry Richardson and Jack Walsh, set out to climb the highest mountain in Africa, a challenge which Jack said “pushed them beyond their limits”. This is the first charity partnership the company, which supplies phone and tablet accessories, have ever embarked on.

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), providers of palliative, respite and end of life care for children and families from Bath, were delighted with the support it received at Bath Half 2019. The charity had a huge team of 240 runners, which included 49 runners from Bath-based Rotork.

Lynne is ready to lead Moonlight Memory Walk

Lynne Vosper from Falmouth is looking forward to taking part in Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) 10 th anniversary Moonlight Memory Walk which is happening in Falmouth on Saturday 30 th March.
