The trusty vessel which will carry a team of Cornish friends on an epic 3000-mile charity row has left their training “home” of Mylor Yacht Harbour for the Canary Islands where the “Atlantic Seamen’s” Talisker Whiskey Challenge will begin.

During the months of intensive training and fundraising for the Urology Foundation and Children’s Hospice South West the team has seen changes with two members of the original line-up unavoidably pulling out and two new members stepping into the breach.

Light Up a Life 2018 to get star treatment at Barnstaple Christmas lights switch-on

The 2018 Light Up a Life appeal is set to get star billing at Barnstaple’s Christmas Lights switch-on this Sunday (November 18).

The 22nd annual joint fundraising appeal for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) and North Devon Hospice (NDH) will be launched on the big stage at 5pm, before the main switch-on at 6pm.

Families who have been supported by the two hospices will light a giant star in the Square; stars will also be lit at each hospice and at the office of the North Devon Gazette office, which has supported the appeal every year since its inception.

Seven year old Tayen, from Bridgwater, has a genetic condition known as Neurofibromatosis Type 1. The condition is incurable, and causes tumours to grow on nerves anywhere in her body. She has epilepsy and hydrocephalus, is completely blind, and has already endured several rounds of chemotherapy. She and her family visit Charlton Farm for respite breaks, and her mum Kali told us what the hospice means to Tayen: “She loves everyone there, she gets so excited. We stay there as a family, although when we’re there, Tayen doesn’t want me or her dad or her brothers near her. She sees it as her time

Bright Solicitors Running into Festive Season

Five brave colleagues from Bright Solicitors in Plymouth and Ivybridge are going to be donning their trainers as they plan to run 19km on 9 th December to raise vital funds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), the firm’s Charity of the Year.

The team were inspired to take part in CHSW’s Santas on the Run fun run which is happening at the Eden Project on 9 th December but decided to extend the challenge to incorporate Santas on the Run into a 19km route and will be donning Santa suits to run in.

There is a new team of entrepreneurs topping the 2018 Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) £50 Challenge leaderboard.

Financial experts at Prydis clearly have all the right skills when it comes to maximising investments – a team from the Exeter branch has turned £50 into £6,765 for the charity, which provides respite for families of children with life-limiting conditions throughout the South West.

The team is the latest to take up the CHSW corporate challenge, beating this year’s previous best set by Exeter engineering firm WSP.

Ocean Group Sponsoring Santas on the Run

Ocean Group based at Holmbush in St Austell has shown its support for Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) upcoming Santas on the Run event at the Eden Project by generously sponsoring the event.

Santas on the Run is a 2km festive fun run and has been supported in previous years by Ocean Group, a not for profit, charitable registered provider of social and affordable housing. Sponsorship of the event by the local business helps to cover event costs meaning that more money raised in sponsorship by those taking part can go towards the vital care offered by CHSW at its Little Harbour hospice

6-year old Romani raises over £500!

A six-year old girl from Weston has raised over £500 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Romani Holland, who goes to Haywood Village Academy school in Weston, said she was inspired to raise money for the hospice “because I don’t like that the children are poorly, and I want to help them feel better.” She raised the funds by being sponsored to have her long hair cut, and in the process, benefitted two charities, CHSW’s Charlton Farm and The Princess Trust.

The annual Santas on the Run 2k fun run is taking place in Bristol on Sunday, December 9. It’s the biggest and most spectacular festive charity event, which attracts thousands of people from the city and beyond, of all ages and abilities.

Over £16k raised at Jail and Bail in Bristol

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) arrested, charged and put on trial nine professionals in Bristol on Thursday 25th October in a popular charity event known as Jail & Bail.

Baby Rupert Will Lead Santas on the Run at Eden

Rupert Connor-Latus will be just 9 weeks old on Sunday 9 th December when he will be Santa number 1 at Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) Santas on the Run event at the Eden Project.
