South West firms urged to ‘get nifty with your fifty’ in aid of children’s hospice

Children’s Hospice South West is inviting businesses to get ‘nifty with your fifty’ and take on its new-look £50 Challenge this autumn.

The charity is giving workplace teams an initial £50 and tasking them to see how much money they can raise in just 50 working days, from September 16 to November 22.

Cake sales, raffles, quizzes and workplace fun and games are all encouraged but firms are being challenged to get creative and help make a big difference to their local children’s hospice.

The Co-founder and Chief Executive of Children’s Hospice South West has added his voice to calls for improved statutory funding for children's hospices.

Eddie Farwell said the cost of providing specialist care for life-limited children continued to rise and the demand on services was increasing.

The charity, which needs around £10million a year to run its three hospices – Little Bridge House in North Devon, Charlton Farm in North Somerset and Little Harbour in Cornwall – receives around 15% of its funding from central government via the CCG and NHS England.

Rainbow runners make colourful splash at Exeter’s Westpoint

Exeter’s Westpoint showground was given a colourful makeover on Saturday as families from across the region took part in Children’s Hospice South West’s Rainbow Run.

Around 1,000 people took part in the charity’s flagship summer fundraising event, raising thousands of pounds for the charity’s Little Bridge House hospice in North Devon.

RAF St Mawgan was covered in all colours of the rainbow on Sunday at Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) 6 th annual Rainbow Run sponsored by Ann’s Cottage. The day also marked the last day of Children’s Hospice Week – a national awareness week for children’s hospices across the country.

1500 people of all ages took part, running, jogging and walking the 5k route around RAF St Mawgan’s training ground where they didn’t let the Cornish rain dampen spirits as they got covered in different coloured powder paint along the way.

Kingsmans handover £6000 Donation to CHSW

Staff from Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) were delighted to receive a donation of £6000 from Plymouth group the Kingsman.

The Kingsmans group was set up to offer men a social dining group which wasn’t specifically about networking. The Kingsmans started meeting once a month at Charlie Franks restaurant where members would enjoy a meal and form new friendships and contacts with others from around the city. The group has now reached 75 members with between 30 and 40 members meeting up each month.

Monday, June 17 marked the beginning of Children’s Hospice Week - the only week in the year dedicated to raising awareness and funds for children’s hospice services across the UK and the seriously ill children and young people they support.

The theme of the week is ‘Moments that matter’ and the local children’s hospice, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), is showcasing the wealth of special memories made for families supported by the charity.

Charity Football Match Coming to Saltash

An annual memorial football match played at Kimberly Stadium in Saltash is back on Sunday 30 th June and organisers hope for another successful event.

This event is put on each year in memory of Saltash United player Ben Pinkham. Along with their family and friends Ben’s friends Chris Pethick and James Allmett organise the charity football match which is played against the Plymouth Argyle Legends.

Chris and James are encouraging people to come along on the 30 th June and be part of the day which will be raising money for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Businesses give their backing to Exeter Rainbow Run

Around 1,000 people will be getting colourful and raising money for Children’s Hospice South West at Rainbow Run in Exeter this weekend.

The charity’s flagship summer fundraising event takes place at Westpoint on Saturday and money raised will help support 500 children with life-limiting conditions and their families across the South West.

The charity has joined forces with a trio of Exeter-based firms that have offered to sponsor this year’s Rainbow Run, meaning that the money raised by those taking part can go straight towards the care provided by the charity.

Feast of live music in aid of CHSW at family-friendly festival

Families are being invited to enjoy a friendly summer music festival vibe in aid of Children’s Hospice South West at Blackmoor Gate next month.

More than 20 live local and national bands will be performing across three stages during the eighth annual Little Bridge Stock music festival at the Old Station House Inn from July 5-6.

A feast of live music will start on the inside stage with Big Fat Blues Band at 6pm on Friday. Yazzy, Quorum and Coast to Coast Discos complete the opening night line-up.

Entertainment on the Saturday will start at 12noon, with David Bowie tribute Spirit of Ziggy

Exeter family’s very special reason for taking part in Rainbow Run for children’s hospice

A family from Exeter has a very special reason to be taking part in Children’s Hospice South West’s Rainbow Run at Westpoint on Saturday, June 22.

Around 1,000 people are expected to take part in the colourful fundraiser and parents Dominic and Caroline Stacey and their four children will also be joining the fun to help raise money for the charity that has supported them for the last eight years.
