Trevor's 44 mile 60th birthday challenge

Trevor Lee, a Business Consultant from Truro, not only completed the 2021 Classic Quarter 44 mile coastpath run event to celebrate his 60th birthday, but also raised some serious cash for a local children’s charity.


Trevor set himself the 44@60 challenge back in 2019 when he decided that in his 60th birthday year he wanted to conquer running 44 miles on the Cornish coastpath from the most southerly point; Lizard Point, to the most westerly point; Land’s End. This wasn’t just a physical challenge though, this was going to be a fundraising challenge too to support Children’s Hospice South

Antler dog chews raise over £200 for charity

Dog chews made from deer antler have raised over £200 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).


As an addition to their butchery in Launceston, West Country Premium Venison also make dog chews from the deer antlers and last Christmas sold them to benefit CHSW. Antler grow back each year so they are a sustainable resource and make the perfect treat for dogs as they are packed with calcium, potassium, iron, zinc and magnesium.


£2 from every chew sold via West Country Premium Venison’s online shop as well as other local stockists; Maunders and Sons, was collected to donate to CHSW totaling £258

Bath community invited to Zumba for charity

Kate Parsons from Bath is organising a 2-hour Zumbathon to raise funds for local charity, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).


The Zumbathon is taking place at the Bath Pavillion on Saturday 14 August from 2pm until 4pm. Participants are being asked donation £10 to take part, which will go straight to CHSW.


Kate’s family were cared for by CHSW’s Charlton Farm hospice in North Somerset after her five-year-old son Max had been diagnosed with an incurable condition.

Jodie to jump 15,000 feet for Harry

On 25 September, Jodie Buffery will be jumping out of a plane to raise funds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), a charity close to her heart.


The 25-year old from Bedminster, Bristol, was made aware of the charity when her friend’s family began visiting the local hospice, Charlton Farm in Wraxall.


Jodie said: “Charlton Farm has provided the most wonderful care for a very special little boy in my life - 3-year-old Harry - and his whole family, and I have seen first-hand what a difference this care, love and support has made.”

Children’s hospice honoured by royal visit during 30th anniversary year

The Duchess of Cornwall paid a very special visit to the Little Bridge House children’s hospice in North Devon yesterday (Wednesday).

Her Royal Highness met with children and families and heard about the challenges they have faced during the pandemic, and how the hospice, which is run by Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), has been helping them through this difficult time.

The Duchess, who became the Royal Patron of CHSW in 2015, was taken on a socially-distanced tour of hospice and gardens, including the Narnia-themed sensory garden, by the charity’s Co-founder and Chief Executive Eddie

Somerset couple hang up their fundraising hats

Carol and Doug Rogers from Norton-Sub-Hamden in Somerset have decided to hang up their fundraising hats after more than two decades volunteering for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).


This kind-hearted pair have run Smokestack Country Music Club for the past 21 years in support of CHSW and have raised £165,552.50 during that time.

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is inviting you to join them for a weekend of 90s nostalgia!


The charity is celebrating its milestone 30th anniversary this year and asking party-people to join in the awesome celebrations on Friday 17 to Sunday 19 September, by throwing a wicked Back to the 90s Party.

Claudia's curls are chopped for charity

Nine year old Claudia, from Derriford in Plymouth, has had more than 12 inches of her hair cut in support of not one but two special charities.


Claudia had been growing her hair for years and decided that if she was going to have it cut she wanted to donate the hair to Little Princess Trust. The charity provides free, real hair wigs to children and young people, up to the age of 24, who have lost hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.

Strong donation from Cornwall Building Supplies

Hayle based builders merchants; Cornwall Building Supplies, has recently donated £200 to Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) Little Harbour hospice in St Austell after running a ‘Hammer Hold’ competition.


Customers and staff alike got very competitive to see who could hold the hammer for the longest time during the competition which ran over the last few months. With prizes worth £150 up for grabs for the male and female winners, competitors were entering time and time again to try to obtain the longest time. Cornwall Buidling Supplies kindly match funded every £1 that was donated to enter

John's book raises over £1.5k

John Barkle from Wells in Somerset has presented local charity, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), with a cheque for £1,528.


The fantastic donation was the result of sales of John’s first book, ‘Memories of a Village Grocer’.


The book recounts John’s days as a young boy in Ditcheat, his years in the shops in Pilton and Wells, his amateur dramatics in Croscombe, to his retirement and beyond. It has been described as ‘beautifully written, full of anecdotes and village characters; a must read for anyone who remembers shopping in Barkles or who loves village life’.
