Ticket sales for all RUN Barnstaple events closes on Wednesday 23 September at 5pm. There will be no on the day ticket sales.

CHSW will have photographers taking photos on the day and filming the rainbow craziness. If you want to get shots right in the midst of the action we recommend covering cameras/phones with plastic wrap or bringing a disposable camera.

When you have completed your registration and paid your deposit, you will receive an event pack that will detail exactly what is involved in signing up to the trip, for example:

  • Your spending money
  • Personal travel insurance
  • Payments for visas
  • Vaccinations and medical forms (where required)
  • Airport taxes where applicable
  • Optional tours and meals on your free day
  • Personal items from the kit list
  • A tip for the local guides and porters
  • Your travel to and from the UK departure airport

It costs more than £14 million a year to keep our 3 hospices open and raise the funds to continue to be there for babies, children, young people and families (to fundraise).

A residuary legacy is the gift of the remainder of your estate (or a percentage of the remainder) after all other gifts to friends and family have been distributed and all outgoings have been dealt with.

A residuary legacy is especially valuable to CHSW because the growing value of your assets protects it against inflation.

A pecuniary legacy is a fixed sum of money that tends to decrease in value over time because of inflation. For example, a legacy of £1,000 written into a Will in 1980 would now be worth less than £380. However, it is possible to index-link a pecuniary legacy, to ensure that the legacy maintains its intended value.

Based on the 2024/2025 financial year, the odds of winning the guaranteed weekly 1st prize of £1,000 is 1 in 22,264. The chances of winning any of the other 13 prizes is 1 in 1,713.

Please call 01271 313 311, Monday to Friday from 9am to 4.30pm. At all other times please leave a message on our answerphone or complete our online enquiry form.

South West Splash is our brand-new fundraising event where you come up with a water-based challenge or fun activity.

You could swim every day for a month, or your child could swim a length of the pool. You could learn to surf until you drop, or kayak a marathon. Your child could learn to dive or simply handstand in the pool. Whatever the challenge, it doesn’t matter! There is nothing too small or too big, so get those swimming costumes, shorts or wet suits on and make a huge difference.

No! Anyone can take part, because you are completing the event in your own time, at your own pace, on your own terms.

No. Rainbow Run is all about having fun. you can run, walk, jog or skip - there are no prizes for being first across the finish line.

Our overseas adventures are all run by tour operators on our behalf, as the tour operators have the experience, insurance and ATOL protection necessary to run these kinds of challenges. Therefore, registration fees should be sent directly to the appropriate tour operator when you complete your booking form.

Please note also, that the terms and conditions of your booking are with the tour operator rather than with Children’s Hospice South West - we will only stipulate fundraising terms and conditions, and do not have any control over insurance, travel arrangements or anything else to do with the trip itself. If you would like more information about this, then just get in touch.

With our college partner we are able to offer NVQ units in Retail Skills and Customer Service through our shops. Contact your local CHSW shop manager or find out about NVQs at CHSW Shops.

Payroll giving is a tax efficient and easy way to support us. You choose the amount you'd like to donate and then each payday, your gift will be deducted automatically from your gross salary (after National Insurance but before tax).  This means the tax you would have paid on your donation is also given to Children's Hospice South West.

It’s very easy to arrange. Email your local corporate fundraiser and we'll make sure that your company operates a scheme that allows you to give to us straight from your pay. We can then notify your Payroll Department that you would like to set up a regular donation to us in this way.

If your company does not operate the scheme, then we will contact you to let you know. We can help suggest to them to get one set up.

Regular play winners will be notified by their preferred method of contact and a cheque sent by post. One-off play ticket winners will need to contact the Lottery Team on 01271 313 311 where their tickets and details will be verified. Once verified a cheque is sent by post. Weekly winning numbers are also published on the CHSW website.

Unfortunately, places are non-transferable to another participant.

Places are non-refundable. Upon medical evidence refunds maybe given at the disgression of the Fundraising Manager.

In the unlikely event that CHSW has to cancel the event, all participants will be contacted about a registration fee refund and any sponsorship money received by CHSW can be refunded on the request of the sponsor.

It would be great if you could also let us know how you raised the money (and be sure to include your name and address so that we can send you a thank you letter!).

Unfortunately, some emails can end up in your junk folder - please check this first.

Please ensure order requests contain your full name, delivery address and a contact telephone number in case there are any problems fulfilling your order, and send this along with a cheque made payable to Children's Hospice South West to the following address: CHSW, Little Bridge House, Redlands Road, Fremington, Barnstaple, Devon, EX31 2PZ.

The current selling price of items will be applied to your order based on the date payment is received.

Members of Hike Support will make a decision each day to ensure conditions are deemed safe to walk. They will consider high winds, torrential rain, thunder high temperatures or any conditions where it is considered too dangerous to continue. We may have to decide to abandon the event for that day. But a little rain won’t stop us!

Yes, your registration fee goes towards the cost of putting on the event.

Any additional sponsorship helps to raise vital funds to care for and support babies, children and young people living with life-limiting conditions and their families.

The event will go ahead if it is raining. If the weather is deemed unsafe, a decision will be made 48 hours prior to the event and you will be notified by email. We will also update the Rainbow Run Cornwall Facebook event page.

We provide emergency care for many families, and this can be for a number of reasons. It may be that the child is very poorly and the family would like the support that the hospice provides, both physically and emotionally.

An emergency may not necessarily be with the child. A parent maybe ill, recovering from an operation, or attending a family funeral for example, and may need additional assistance with their child during this time.

We ask volunteers to pay their own expenses as we feel as much money as possible raised should go directly to support and care for our children and families.

If appropriate, talk to your supervisor, manager or HR team to suggest that they set one up. It’s simple to get it in place. Or please get in touch with your local corporate fundraiser. We are happy to speak to them to suggest that they introduce one.

Winners must verify their details and claim their prize within 6 months of the draw date, after which CHSW will treat the prize as a donation.

Of course - you'll have a link to share with friends and family members to view the dedication via the Moonlight Memory Walk webpage. They can then make a donation.

We aren’t able to promote events before they’ve happened – but we do use our social media platforms to celebrate fundraising successes.

Spreading the word about your fundraising is much more successful when it comes from you, so we’ve created a handy guide to using social media to help you, click here for more details.

No. You can choose to walk, jog or run!

No. Only fill out the own place running form if you have already purchased a place from the event organisers.

Yes!

Long-term donations enable us to plan for the future and ensure money is available where it is needed most. Regular gifts mean a consistent, predictable income so we can plan and budget better, making us more efficient. It’s also more cost effective. More of your money goes to our work as they generate less administration and carry cheaper bank charges.

There are benefits for you too. A regular gift is a hassle-free way to donate, while knowing that you are supporting our work.  To set up your direct debit payment go to our Donate page, follow the instructions on the form, when you select regular donation the form will expand to provide the direct debit instructions to your bank.

The paint is 100% natural and water-soluble and will not cause any damage to the environment. However, we still put in a clean-up team to remove the paint on the ground after the event.

Your sponsorship money needs to be paid to Children’s Hospice South West ten weeks before the date of departure. This is because the charity has to pay the tour operator costs in advance, and have to ensure that every person we pay for has raised all the money. Some people find it difficult to ask for the money up front, but it is a lot harder to get the money in after the event. Your sponsors will understand about this.

As a charity we receive less than 16% of our funding from government and statutory organisations.

Taxation rules change frequently.  Your solicitor can provide Will tax-planning advice or arrange for the services of an accountant or tax adviser. A Will can allow you to take tax into account and maximise how much you leave to others. For example there is currently no inheritance tax payable on a gift left to charity in your will and if you leave 10% of your estate to charity, your IHT liability reduces from 40% to 36%.

The prize fund for each weekly draw is £1,425. This is made up of 14 guaranteed prizes totalling £1,225 and a £200 Bonus Rollover.

The 14 guaranteed weekly prizes are 1st prize: £1,000, 2nd prize £100 and 3rd prizes 2 x £25, 5 x £10, 5 x £5

The Bonus Rollover starts at £200 and if the prize is not won it rolls over by £200 each week until it reaches £10,000 when it is guaranteed that week.

Once a family starts to visit our hospices, our Care Team are available to help them think about the choices they may wish to consider when their child nears the end of their life. An end of life care plan is a document that outlines you and your child’s wishes for their end of life care, including management of pain, other symptoms and provision of psychological, social, spiritual and support for the family into bereavement

The end of life phase begins when a judgement is made that no more treatment is possible, to ensure care helps children who are no longer receiving curative treatment to live as well as possible until they die. Including care during and around the time of death, and immediately afterwards. Enabling supportive and palliative care needs of both child and the family to be identified and met throughout the last phase of life.

Families may wish to come to the hospice for care towards the end of their child’s life. We would always view these stays as a priority. Families may also wish to stay at home or in a hospital and then come to the hospice after their child has died. Whatever the family decides our care team can offer support, advice and practical help whether at home or in the hospice.

Not necessarily, this will depend on what your criminal record is for and the role you are applying for. We reserve the right to make a decision on a case by case basis.

You can donate through Payroll Giving:

  • if you are paid by an employer
  • if you have PAYE deducted from your pay, and
  • if your employer has set up a Payroll Giving scheme.

Your payroll department will be able to tell you if your employer has signed up.

Winners will be notified within 1 week of the draw date by phone first, followed by email, where their details will be verified. Once verified a cheque is sent by post. Winning ticket numbers are also published on the CHSW website.

No. We gratefully receive any sponsorship our own place runners collect. No matter how small you think this amount may be, it will go a long way to help support our work.

Your bike will be your best friend during the 3 long days of cycling - we strongly advise that you use a road bike as they will help you go faster and will be more comfortable. When choosing which bike to use remember the terrain, you may wish to leave the carbon wheels at home! You can complete the ride on a hybrid or mountain bike but these will be slower and you must have slick road tyres and inflate them to the highest possible pressure. Electric bikes are not permitted.

Yes, as the races hold a RunEvents licence they will be added to Power of 10.

All participants must also have adequate personal travel insurance. 15-17 year olds may also participate in any challenge with the agreement of their parent or guardian and if accompanied by a parent or guardian on the challenge who is of legal age, (18 years of age or older). With your families permission we will then contact your professional support team (GP, consultants, key workers etc) to gather up-to-date information about your child's current needs and likely future prognosis. To make a referral please contact us.

Once a Will has been made, it is important to keep it up to date and account for any changes in your circumstances. For example, you may now have had a child or grandchild, you may have moved home, or your financial situation may have changed. It is also advisable to reconsider the contents of your Will regularly to make sure that it still reflects your wishes.
