Brave Kirsty takes on skydive for CHSW

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is looking for brave individuals to join them for a thrilling skydive experience on Saturday 23 rd March at Dunkswell Airfield in Honiton.

Bob, Jamie and Dan from Triangle Networks based in Clevedon are aiming to raise £3,000 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) by taking part in a combined 36 half marathons (12 each) over the course of the year.

Amanda Gallagher, CHSW Corporate Fundraiser, said “Running one half marathon is quite a challenge for many people, let alone 12! We wish them the best of luck for their first run at Longleat on 3rd February!”

Instow marines’ festive fundraisers in aid of hospice neighbours

Royal Marines based at Instow have been stepping up their fundraising support for Children’s Hospice South West.

The 11 Amphibious Trails and Training Squadron, which raised more than £500 during a family fun day last summer, has now presented a further £671.71 to the charity following some festive fundraisers held on December 19.

Civilian Kevin Spencer organised in-house competitions and an auction following the camp’s Christmas dinner – all in aid of the charity’s Little Bridge House children’s hospice, in Fremington, which is just down the road from the Arromanches Camp.

Blights Motors in Bideford has raised £615 for Children’s Hospice South West.

The family-run MG dealership in Clovelly Road held a Christmas raffle in the showroom, and also collected donations to the charity from customers, staff and family members.

Around 1,000 raffle tickets were sold and Mary Blight, who ran the garage for many years with husband Fred, also made her own Christmas puddings and sold them to help boost the garage’s fundraising efforts.

Nailsea shop undergoing refurb

The Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) shop in Nailsea, which has been trading since 2007, has temporarily closed due to re-fit to make it bigger and better. However, during closure you’ll still be able to support the charity as it’s opening a pop-up shop during this period.

The temporary shop opened on Friday 11 th January at the old ‘The Blue Room’ having moved across the precinct from Colliers Walk.

Marathon man Andy put though his paces with the Somerset CCC first team

If you’re taking your training for the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon up a notch this January, you’re not alone!

Former Somerset County Cricket Club chairman, Andy Nash will be among many running their first ever marathon on Sunday, April 28 – and he returned to the County Ground in Taunton yesterday (Wednesday) to train with members of the Somerset first team.

CHSW given £746 by Devon Freemasons

Children’s Hospice South West’s Little Bridge House hospice has been chosen to receive a grant of £746 from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Devonshire Freemasons.

The grant comes through the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF), and will be used to help provide respite care and support for the children and their families at the hospice in Fremington, North Devon.

This is just one of 237 grants to hospices around the country from Freemasons. In total £600,000 will be donated to hospices all over England and Wales this year.

If you’re looking for a new challenge with real bite in 2019, registration for the ‘stunning and savage’ Croyde Ocean Triathlon is now open and entry places are selling fast.

The Olympic distance triathlon, named as one of 220 Triathlon magazine’s ‘top 21 must-do’ triathlons, returns on Sunday, July 14.

The Croyde Ocean Triathlon in association with the Pickwell Foundation features a 1.5km ocean swim along Putsborough beach, followed by a 38km road bike ride from Croyde to Middle Marwood, and a hilly 12km off-road run around Croyde, Baggy Point and Putsborough.

A ukulele group is set to bring a little sunshine to Newquay this January with a special fundraising concert at a local beach.

The St Merryn Ukes will perform an exclusive charity gig at Lusty Glaze on Monday 28th January in aid of Children’s Hospice South West.
