After weeks and months of training Nicola Hague from Plymouth was one of thousands of runners devastated at the news that this year’s 40th Virgin London Marathon will not be going ahead in its usual way. But for Nicola the London Marathon meant much more than just completing 26 miles,  she was going to be running in memory of her son Ethan and to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) which is why she will be running the virtual London marathon on 4th October.  

Bristol Freemasons are supporting Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) by supplying them with wooden pallets so they can be transformed into planters. The pallets have been lovingly reconstructed by Adam Gallagher who lives in Stockwood and is an active supporter of CHSW. 

Next year Paul Dennett, a father of three from Frampton Cotterell, South Gloucestershire, turns 44 and plans to mark the occasion by running 112 miles from London to Bristol in just 24 hours. Dubbed ‘The Long Run Home’ Paul will be pounding the streets during the weekend of 6-7 February 2021 and asking for donations in support of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

On September 27, three members of the care team from Charlton Farm will be taking the plunge and swimming in open water in support of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

A selfless mum battling terminal cancer has put her own illness aside to help poorly children for a day.

Kathleen Hague, of Helston, was recently diagnosed with terminal small-cell lung cancer.

In the advanced stage, this cancer cannot be cured, but treatments are available to improve the quality of life and treat any symptoms.

In 2005, keen long-distance walker and grandmother, Beryl Griffiths, walked more than 600 miles from Lowestoft to St David's Head to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW). Beryl documented her walk and published a book entitled ‘Granny Trek’ about her adventures crossing Middle England and South Wales with her two dogs by her side.

A bereaved dad from North Tawton will be joining 45,000 people running the first ever ‘virtual’ London Marathon next month.

Luke Compton had been gearing up to take on his second London Marathon in April but the event was postponed and finally cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Five-year old Elena Smart from Portishead cycled 100km during August and raised over £1,200 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Sidmouth’s new Children’s Hospice South West charity shop is looking for volunteers to help following a successful opening earlier this month.

The shop in Fore Street opened its doors for the first time on August 12 and is appealing for help from the local community following a busy first few weeks.

Manager Emma-Louise Lee said she was delighted that people in Sidmouth were supporting the new shop, which has opened in the former New Look shop.
