Keynsham Chicks continue to support the hospice

A group of ladies from Keynsham have been knitting chicks and selling them in the local area for 21 years.

The Keynsham Chicks, co-ordinated by Margaret Thompson, kindly give the proceeds to the local children’s hospice - Charlton Farm in Wraxall. Once knitted and stuffed with a chocolate eggs, the chicks are sold all over the local area and beyond during Easter.

The ladies are already planning a Christmas knit this year to raise even more money for the vital work we do

Andrew Lincoln joins cyclists on 205-mile fundraising ride for children’s hospice

More than 70 cyclists have whizzed through the West Country on a 205-mile three-day charity challenge to raise thousands of pounds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

The 11 th annual Ride for Precious Lives set off from the charity’s Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell on Friday morning and headed to Little Bridge House in North Devon, before finishing at Charlton Farm in North Somerset on Sunday afternoon.

This year’s event featured 72 cyclists from all over the South West, who were joined by well-known TV and film star Andrew Lincoln, star of the hit TV series The Walking

Record Year for CHSW Golf Day

An annual Charity Golf Day at Carlyon Bay Golf Club has taken place for the seventh year and raised £17,400 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

This year the event saw a record number of 40 teams take to the course as part of the Golf Day which was held on 17 th May to help raise funds for local children’s charity CHSW which runs Little Harbour children’s hospice at Porthpean.

The event was organised by a dedicated supporter of CHSW, Ian Warne, Branch Manager at HSBC who said;

Betty's Marathon Fundraising Total

Fred Thomas, AKA Skinners Brewery mascot Betty Stogs, has had a busy start to the year training for, and taking part in, the London Marathon all in aid of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW). Jaws dropped recently when Fred’s fundraising total for the local children’s charity was revealed as £41,649.78p.

Ride for Precious Lives Sets off from Little Harbour

Little Harbour hosted the start of Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) annual Ride for Precious Lives today.

72 cyclists left Little Harbour in St Austell; one of the charity’s three children’s hospices in the south west, embarking on a 205 mile cycle and hoping to raise around £75,000 for CHSW.

The route will take the riders three days and will cover Cornwall, Devon and Somerset dropping in at CHSW’s Little Bridge House hospice in Barnstaple on Saturday and finishing at Charlton Farm children’s hospice near Bristol on Sunday. The event has received generous sponsorship from main event

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is opening a shop at 4 Horseshoe Lane in Thornbury on Tuesday 16 July at 10.30am.

It will be a great place to find good quality, pre-loved items, from clothes, accessories and homeware to collectables, books and media.

Whether you shop in the store, give your time to volunteer or donate pre-loved items to them - you'll be helping to make a difference to local families whose children are not expected to reach adulthood.

Children’s hospice charity benefits from community fund

A charity providing hospice care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families has benefitted from a local housebuilder’s donation.

Children’s Hospice South West has been chosen as one of the recipients of the David Wilson Homes Community Fund, which was launched earlier this year.

The David Wilson Homes Community Fund donates £1,000 each month to a charity or organisation which improves the quality of life for those living in the region. The new initiative is part of the company’s pledge to strengthen its ties with the areas in which it is building new homes.

East Devon sea shanty singers are on song for children’s hospice

East Devon sea shanty singers The Jurassix have presented a £1,255 fundraising cheque to Children’s Hospice South West.

The money was raised during a number of recent performances by the shanty band, whose members all hail from the Jurassic Coast.

The Jurassix formed in 2011 and members meet for practice sessions at Whitford Village Hall near Axminster.

They regularly perform at village fairs and regattas across East Devon and West Dorset, including at Beer Regatta, Sidmouth Folk Festival, Branscombe Village Fare, Chardstock Village Fair and Whitford Fair.

Dave Fear from Bristol has been raising funds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) since 1992 having been introduced to the charity and inspired by the late Bob Woodward OBE.

Since that time, he and his wife Hillie have raised over £270,000 from organising and hosting Charity Golf Days at Henbury Golf Club where they are both members.

On many occasions, Dave has secured sponsorship for the event from the Premier League thanks to his ties with former Chief Executive, Richard Scudamore, along with countless contributions from local companies who sponsor a hole on the course.

Phillip Hornibrook from Stoke in Plymouth has fully embraced supporting the charity chosen by his workplace as Charity of the Year for 2019 by taking on a year of challenges.
