81-year old cycles 2000-miles in lockdown

Ann Wilson, from Burton in Wiltshire, has shown great strength and determination during this difficult time. All through the first lockdown, and before she turned 82, Ann decided to raise money for three charities close to her heart by getting on her bike!


As someone who likes to remain active, Ann began with a target of cycling 820 miles ahead of her 82nd birthday. Ann said: “When the first lockdown came into force I couldn't go to the gym so decided to increase my cycling for exercise.”

Teenager Jack aids Covid recovery with 63-mile charity challenge for CHSW

A teenager from Willand has completed a very special 63-mile charity challenge, despite still recovering from Covid.

Jack Balchin, 13, tested positive for the virus in April last year and has been running throughout December and January to aid his recovery, as well as raise hundreds of pounds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Mum Emma said Jack set himself the target of covering the distance from Exeter to the charity’s Little Bridge House hospice near Barnstaple and ran through wind, rain, ice and hail before completing his challenge on Saturday (January 9).

Marcus Gater from Portishead has cycled the equivalent of Land’s End to John O’Groats and raised £775 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).


Marcus, the Commercial Director for Allegro Logistics by day and a spin teacher by night, has supported CHSW in a number of ways in the past, but always by using pedal power!


He’s previously taken part in the CHSW’s popular 3-day cycling event, Ride for Precious Lives, and his spin group at the Hub in Portishead where he teaches, hold a class for charity every December.

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2021 …and everyone is welcome to join the party!

During the last three decades, the charity has provided a safe haven of care, support and friendship for thousands of local families with a life-limited child. And in its 30th year, supporters are being asked to help it create more cherished memories for many years to come.

Local singer, John Prescott, has been entertaining the public by socially-distanced busking and doorstep singing around Clevedon in support of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

John said: “One of the days started with an invitation to sing safely outside for residents at a local home. It was lovely to see them smiling through the doors. On another cold and wet night I surprised abirthday girl and family friends that deserved some Christmas cheer!”

Acorn Blue's Butties Raise Almost £500 for CHSW

£481 has been raised by Acorn Property Group’s Cornwall region, Acorn Blue, from making and selling bacon rolls to construction staff on their sites.

The money has been raised for local children’s charity Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) which runs three children’s hospices including Little Harbour in St Austell. It is the second year that Acorn Blue has supported the charity in this way.

Deer Farm Supporting Children's Hospice South West

Westcountry Premium Venison in Launceston has chosen to support Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) through the sale of its popular dog chews.


As an addition to their butchery, the family farm makes dog chews out of deer antler for customers’ canine companions to enjoy. They are packed with calcium, potassium, iron, zinc and magnesium and are sustainably grown, sourced and safely collected from their high health status deer annually.

For every dog chew sold they will be donating £2 to CHSW, which runs three children’s hospices in the region including Little Harbour in St Austell.

Students get creative for charitable causes

Throughout December, students at Bridgwater and Taunton College are getting creative and fundraising for a variety of charities.


‘RAGVENT’ as it is known, will be supporting Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), In Charley’s Memory, and Secret World Wildlife Rescue.


So far, the students have created and sold Christmas cards and crocheted animals, taken part in head shaves, an ice-bucket challenge, live-streamed a music set, experienced leg waxing and been dressing up! To date they have raised over £900.

Donations Brewing in St Ives for Children’s Hospice

St Ives Brewery, creators of St Ives India Pale Ale, Boilers Golden Cornish Ale and Knill by Mouth Cornish Ale to name a few, is generously donating 10% of its website sales to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).


The partnership started on 7 December and will be running until 21 December and will see 10% from all online sales made by the brewery donated to the local children’s charity. CHSW runs three children's hospices including Little Harbour in St Austell which supports over 130 children with life limiting conditions and their families from across Cornwall and Plymouth.

The big bauble hang in Clevedon

Lucy and James Grimsted from Clevedon have found a very novel way to support their local children’s hospice.


The kind-hearted pair have a beautiful wisteria tree in their garden and are inviting members of the public to hang a bauble for a donation to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).


A box of baubles is placed outside their home at 3 Seavale Road, Clevedon BS21 7QB, next to the tree daily from 7.30am – 10.30pm regardless of the weather. Donations can be posted through their letterbox or there is a QR code visible, which can be scanned.
