The Big Bauble Hang is back in Clevedon

Last year the Grimstead family raised a whopping £1,723.77 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) when they invited passers-by to hang a bauble on their wisteria tree in exchange for a donation.


Lucy Grimstead, said: “Last year we had so much fun watching our tree become even more beautiful. So, with your help we’d love to get that total even bigger for CHSW this year.”

Lighting up Spencer Drive again this Christmas

John Burge from Worle has done it again and completely transformed his house in Spencer Drive into a Victorian toyshop to raise funds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).


The shop is called TJ Toys and it’s been named after John and his 12-year old son Tobie.


Each year John and Tobie have make the display bigger and even more impressive. This year, if you peer into the shop windows you can watch the moving elves and other mechanical objects.


Last year John raised a staggering £3275.54 for CHSW and would love to raise as much money as possible this year for the charity that is so close

Ithan busking to raise funds for sisters hospice

11 year old Ithan Hancock from Tresillian has been busking with his cornet in Waitrose Truro each Saturday in December to raise funds for a charity that is a lifeline to his family.

Ithan has raised over £290 and counting for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) which cares for his sister Rosa and his whole family at its Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell.

Speaking about why he wanted to raise funds for Little Harbour Ithan said;

For a quarter-of-a-century, North Devon’s Light Up a Life appeal has given local people the chance to remember a loved one in the run up to Christmas, while helping to support the vital work of the region’s two hospice charities – Children’s Hospice South West and North Devon Hospice.

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) supporters enjoyed a festive afternoon of fundraising at a Christmas Fair hosted by Tucker’s Gave Inn, raising over £450 for the charity.


The Faulkland pub hosted the Christmas Fair on Sunday 28 November in its Parlour Café to help CHSW provide support and care to families of children with life-limiting conditions.


The café was filled with local craftspeople and stall holders selling everything from ceramics to sustainable tea towels, jewellery, cakes and cosmetics. Volunteers from the CHSW Friends’ Group provided mince pies and home-baked cakes and

Weekend of freestyle festive fundraising

Almost 1000 people took part in a festive fundraiser across the region over the weekend 4-5 December which has raised thousands of pounds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).


Santas on the Run Goes Freestyle gave supporters of the charity the opportunity to take part in a 2km festive fun run at The Eden Project in

St Austell, RHS Rosemoor in Torrington, Ashton Gate Stadium in Bristol or virtually.

Recycle your Christmas tree and help children’s hospice

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is joining forces with Just Helping this Christmas to offer a Christmas tree recycling service to some postcode areas in Devon and Somerset.

Volunteers will be collecting real trees and taking them to be recycled in Barnstaple, Taunton and Torquay from January 13-16, in return for a donation to CHSW. Donations for trees collected in Taunton area will be split between CHSW and St Margaret’s Hospice.

The postcode areas for tree collection are EX31, EX32, EX33, TQ1, TQ2, TA1, TA2, TA3. Collections can be booked from now until Monday 10 January.

For a quarter-of-a-century, the annual Light Up a Life appeal has given people in North Devon the chance to come together and light a candle in memory of loved ones, while helping to provide care for other families facing the most difficult of times.

Six special church services are taking place across the region in the run up to Christmas in support of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) and North Devon Hospice (NDH).

Long-time CHSW supporter Rick Dean, 72, will be lighting candles in memory of his son Kierran and wife Julie at the Fremington Methodist Church service on Thursday, December 9.

Celebrations and donations - a night to remember

A dazzling night of celebration was held at the Eden Project on Saturday 27 November at Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) 30th anniversary ball, sponsored by Ann’s Cottage.


The event raised £36,000 for the charity which saw 200 guests join in celebrations to mark 30 years since the founding of CHSW. The charity offers care and support to over 500 families at its three children’s hospices, including Little Harbour in St Austell.

Charity shop relocation offers enhanced shopping experience

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) has opened a new shop in Barnstaple High Street.

The charity has moved from its original home next door to HSBC to bigger and better premises in the former BrightHouse store, opposite Primark.

The ribbon was officially cut on Friday morning by CHSW co-founder and chief executive Eddie Farwell, who said the shop would raise vital funds for local children with life-limiting conditions and their families.
