A tireless charity supporter will be undertaking an emotional fundraising challenge in North Devon in memory of his late wife and son during Children’s Hospice Week next week.

Rick Dean, 72, will also be celebrating 30 years of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) when he attempts his 30-mile ‘Together forever’ challenge for the charity on Friday 25 June.

The bereaved dad and husband will be walking 10 miles, cycling 10 miles and running 10 miles in relays along the Tarka Trail between Instow and the charity’s Little Bridge House children’s hospice in Fremington.

A former King’s Hall School pupil from Taunton has completed an extreme multi-marathon fundraising challenge for Children’s Hospice South West.

Henry Haselock, 33, ran 150 miles along the South West Coast Path – including a 39-mile detour around the G7 summit – during a gruelling five-day endurance challenge from June 7-11.

He ran more than a marathon each day and covered 9,000 metres of elevation on tricky cliff-top terrain from Land’s End in Cornwall to Hartland Point in North Devon.

A couple in Cleeve, Somerset, will be opening their home for people to browse local crafts and enjoy a cream team for charity.

Paul and Renate O’Donnell - owners of Wood n Things - have been showcasing and selling artisan crafts at their home in Cleeve, North Somerset for many years. This summer, interested parties can book with up to three others from Thursday 24 June until the end of July. In line with Government guidelines, face coverings and social distancing rules will apply.

Kind-hearted Bridgwater man John Holman, aged 87, has been making wooden toys for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) for more than three years.

John chose to support CHSW after he visited the charity’s Charlton Farm hospice in North Somerset several years ago. John said: “It was a real eye opener, the place is absolutely beautiful.”

John was so inspired by his tour of Charlton Farm that after his visit he could not stop talking about it. He recently delivered his handmade toys to the children visiting the hospice for respite stays. His toys have also been used to raise vital funds for

Mark Veale from Berkeley in Gloucestershire will be attempting his first ever ultra-marathon in support of Children’s Hospice South West on June 19-20.

Mark discovered a love for running two years ago. Over that time he’s made fantastic progress and recently completed his first ever full marathon race distance of 26.2 miles.

Mark said: “Now it’s time to take it to the next stage; time to stop messing about and get serious.”

The ultra-marathon called ‘Race to the King’ will involve completing 53 miles, along the beautiful South Downs Way, all in one day.

Roseland House Garden in Chacewater near Truro will be welcoming people through it’s gates on 19 – 20 June in support of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

The garden, which surrounds an old mine captains house, is about one acre in size and features a lot of climbing plants from rambling roses to clematis and many others. A Victorian conservatory also provides shelter for the tender climbers and a wide range of scented leaf Pelargoniums.

Families from across Cornwall and Plymouth that are supported by Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell are being invited for free sessions at Mylor Sailing and Powerboat School courtesy of the charity Mylor Sailability.

After receiving funding from Cornwall Community Foundation and Seasalt Clothing Company, Sailability has been able to set up a ‘Good Day Promise’ project offering free sessions for children and their families on their fully accessible powerboat from the end of June onwards.

To mark CHSW’s 30th anniversary, The Pig near Bath is asking customers to round up their payment when buying the small cured-meat platter (£9) and large cured-meat platter (£18). Ollie Lee from Seaton has set himself the mammoth challenge of running 45 miles across Cornwall, from Padstow to Seaton, in memory of his niece’s daughter Phoebe Hoskin.

Phoebe died in April this year just nine months old after suffering with a complex brain tumour. Phoebe and her parents, Ollie’s niece Jade and fiance Sam, were supported by the team at Little Harbour; the children’s hospice in St Austell run by Children’s Hospice South West. Warren Lodge Garden in Mary Tavy near Tavistock will be welcoming people through it’s gates this summer in support of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).
