Eight-year-old Bella from Bedminster in Bristol has begun her biggest fundraising challenge yet – a 30-mile walk to mark the 30th anniversary of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Bella, along with mum Caroline began walking part of the Monarch’s Way on July 3. They are planning to hike 5-miles at a time over a period of 3 weeks.

When Bella heard that CHSW was celebrating its 30th anniversary, she wanted to do something big. So, she decided to take a year and try to raise funds through a bunch of activities and challenges

The route they have chosen takes them into Bristol city centre, up

Swashbuckling shanty group, The Pirates of St Piran, have recently donated £1000 to Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell.
The money was raised through their gigs prior to the pandemic as well as sales of the 6 CD’s which they have released.

There are about 20 pirates that make up the crew, which have been performing at various events for over 10 years, performing sea shanties and pirate songs in traditional 18th century clothing. Proceeds from their gigs and sales of their CD’s all go to their three main charities; CHSW, RNLI and Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Two friends recently took on a mammoth cycling challenge riding from Bristol to St Austell in just one day all in the name of raising vital funds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Richard Jones from Perranporth and friend Matt Proom from Bristol set themselves the challenge of cycling the 150 miles from Bristol Children’s Hospital to Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell to raise funds for CHSW in memory of Joel Erents who died aged 10 and was supported by Little Harbour.

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) was delighted to receive a cheque for £685 from Clevedon United Junior FC’s recent fundraising event.

The football club held its first ever golf day last month at Mendip Spring Golf Club. Two teams of twelve, representing parents and coaches, battled it out for a claret jug trophy, kindly donated by Brunel Engraving Company.

In glorious conditions, the coaches team came out on top to be the inaugural champions.

Club Chairman, Colston Ridge, presented a cheque for £685 from proceeds of the event to CHSW Area Fundraiser Julie Draper at Charlton Farm.

People across the peninsula are being invited to tuck into a cream tea and raise a few pounds for their local children’s hospice.

The Big South West Cream Tea takes place over the August Bank Holiday weekend and organiser Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is asking supporters to join in by holding their own cream tea fundraiser with friends and family.

“Just grab some scones, a spoonful of strawberry jam and a dollop of clotted cream – not necessarily in that order! – and join the party,” said CHSW area fundraiser Bernadette Chambers.

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, is delighted to announce that its Moonlight Memory Walk will be returning on 2 October.

The Moonlight Memory Walk is a 5 mile evening sponsored walk held annually in Falmouth which has raised almost £300,000 for the children’s hospice charity since 2009. 2020’s event was initially postponed and then turned virtual in September 2020. Shops across the South West have experienced a surge in demand for good quality second-hand clothing since reopening in April and are asking people to consider donating any unwanted items.

CHSW Head of Retail Chris Judd said: “We have been very busy since the easing of lockdown and while we have a great choice in store right now, we know we are going to need more summer clothing to meet the demand of the next few weeks.

A song has been released on iTunes by Bradley Stoke resident, Rob Berry, with all proceeds to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Rob, along with pianist and vocalist, Amy Parker, has recorded a cover of Alter Bridge’s Wonderful Life – a poignant song about loss and a celebration of life lived.

Rob and Amy collaborate under the band-name, RoAm.

Rob said: “We chose to record this single as the lyrics are stunning; it’s such a moving, emotional song and I think it has real synergy with the work of CHSW.”

Martin and Mel Abrahams organised a family day with residents of their housing development in Thornbury and raised funds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

The couple are supported by CHSW’s Charlton Farm hospice near Bristol and have been since their youngest daughter, Jessica, died in January 2017.
