Fred Thomas wins Regional Pride of Britain Award

Fred Thomas, aka Betty Stogs, has won a place in the finals of the Pride of Britain Awards.

He was named Regional Pride of Britain Fundraiser 2023 on Friday 15 September.

He will now go onto the finals of the awards, representing the West Country at the national ceremony in October.

Fred, who fundraises across Cornwall, has raised almost £150,000 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) spanning over 14 years, and £400,000 collectively for CHSW and the RNLI.

Charity Golf Day above par and raises over £6,000 for local children’s hospice

On Thursday 7 September, Brunel Wealth raised over £6,000 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) at its charity golf day at Celtic Manor Resort.

40 players including Brunel Wealth team members, clients and families supported by CHSW took to the greens following a breakfast and played 18 holes of golf.

In the afternoon, attendees enjoyed lunch, sponsored by LGT Wealth Management and took part in an auction, bidding for donated prizes such as a Cooking Class at Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant, an overnight stay and breakfast at the Kingham Plough in the Cotswolds and signed sport memorabilia

Football legends raise over £1000 for local children’s hospice

13 teams of golfers braved the summer rain and enjoyed a charity golf day and raffle as well as live music at Knowle Golf Club in aid of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW). The golfers arranged by the Bristol City Former Players Association (FPA) raised over £1000 for the local children’s hospice.

In Children's Hospice Week, our new volunteers in the Bath and North East Somerset area put on a cream tea in New Oriel Hall, Larkall to say thank you to those who had supported the Bath Friends Group in raising over £170K for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Bath Freinds Group was founded by Gertie Hockedy in 1994. Gertie had supported CHSW over the years and enjoyed hosting lunches in her home to raise vital funds for the local children's hospice. Newquay charity gig row re-scheduled for August

Newquay Rowing Club is once again looking for teams to take part in its sponsored gig row in Newquay harbour to support Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

After it was cancelled due to weather conditions in July, the new date for the event is on Sunday 27 August.

The event offers groups of friends, colleagues, sports teams or family to give gig rowing a go in this friendly sponsored charity event. To take part teams are required to supply three novice rowers and the other three rowers and the coxswain in your gig will be supplied by Newquay Rowing Club.

Jo's 3 Peak Challenge raises thousands

Jo Retallick from Cornwall, completed the 3 Peaks Challenge for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) in July.

The 3 Peaks Challenge is a mountain challenge event that involves climbing the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales within 24 hours. The 3 peaks are Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales.

Jo started off with Ben Nevis, which stands at 4,413ft. She started the climb at 6am and reached the summit in 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Jo said:, “The views were insane, and this was my favourite mountain by far!”

The Fisherman’s Friends net bumper haul for children’s hospice

When The Fisherman’s Friends staged their first major benefit concert at the Hall for Cornwall late last year, their catch of the day was a whopping £22,200 for one of their favourite local charities.

This week the chaps took time out from their busy spring UK tour to head back to the Truro venue to hand over this bumper haul to the Children’s Hospice South West – a cause that has become especially close to the Port Isaac shanty group’s hearts.

A founder member of the Chivenor Military Ladies Choir will be swapping song sheets for running shoes when she takes on the TCS London Marathon next month.

Jane Batchelor from Fremington will be joining thousands of runners braving the iconic 26.2-mile course in the capital on Sunday, April 23.

Coastline Housing raises over £12,400 for Children’s Hospice South West

Colleagues at Coastline Housing have presented £12,440 to Children’s Hospice South West.

The money is the result of a year’s worth of corporate fundraising by colleagues at the Cornish housing charity and is a record breaker too – the most Coastline has ever raised for a charity of the year.

Ballroom dancers in Exeter raise thousands for children’s hospice

Ballroom dancers from across East Devon have helped raise thousands of pounds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Dance partners Jean Pollington, from Ottery St Mary, and Mike Green, from Exeter, raised £5,025.93 by holding an annual charity dance at Clyst St Mary Village Hall.

They also raised the money by attending car boot sales throughout the year.
