Anne Skinner, from Worle in Weston-Super-Mare, never imagined that her regular donation to her local children’s hospice could lead to such a big win.

One afternoon, she picked up a phone call she’ll never forget.

"I honestly thought I’d won a tin of biscuits," Anne laughs.

Care home team fulfil 'SuperGran’s' wish to re-visit children's hospice

The Kenwith Castle care home team enabled a resident to re-visit the children’s hospice she helped to found more than 30 years ago.

Eldey spoke to the care home team about her wish to go back to Little Bridge House with her husband Trevor. The facility in Barnstaple, which is operated by Children’s Hospice South West, provides hospice care and support for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families.

Families supported by Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), along with members of the charity’s dedicated care team, took centre stage at last night’s unforgettable Strength in Style fashion show, held in the stunning surroundings of Bath Abbey.

The event – a powerful celebration of resilience, fashion, and community – brought together individuals affected by cancer or life-limiting illness to walk the runway and share their personal journeys with courage and pride.

Gill Brown has been named Regional Pride of Britain Fundraiser 2025, following her extraordinary fundraising efforts which have seen her raise nearly £500,000 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Gill received the honour on Friday, 19 September, and will now go on to the national finals of the Pride of Britain Awards in October, proudly representing the West Country.

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is inviting supporters to take part in their annual Moonlight Memory Walk at The Lost Gardens of Heligan on Saturday 8 November. There’s still time to save 20% on tickets, but only until midday on Thursday 2 October.

Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) charity shop in Falmouth is calling on the local community to help stock its shelves by donating their good-quality, pre-loved items.

The shop, which opened earlier this year, has become a firm favourite for shoppers in the town hunting out a bargain. It is playing a vital role in raising funds to provide care for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families across the South West.

Community Evening in support of Little Harbour

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is holding a community evening in a pub in Delabole.

On Wednesday 1 October, The Poldark Inn in Delabole is opening its doors to the local community to come and engage with CHSW.

This will be the perfect opportunity to find out more about the charity and how it’s service and support for local families is evolving.

The evening will start at 6:30pm with refreshments, followed by a short informal presentation from Alice Merrett, the local Area Fundraiser at Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell. There will be a chance to ask questions afterwards.

25 years of pub quizzing raises thousands for children’s hospice

A pub in Holywell Bay near Newquay has raised £4000 for charity this year alone from running weekly pub quizzes.

The Truguth Inn has invited keen quizzers through its doors every week to raise funds for Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) Little Harbour hospice in St Austell.

Steve Sutton, the owner of The Treguth Inn, said:

Our Wednesday night quiz has been running for 25 years, and has always raised money for Little Harbour. All together, these quizzes have raised around £38,000.

Royal High School pupils to feature in Strength in Style fashion show at Bath Abbey

Two CHSW Young Ambassadors from Royal High School, Ella and Flora will take centre stage at this year’s Strength In Style fashion show at Bath Abbey on Wednesday 24 September. They have been helping to promote the event over the Summer and have helped with the rehearsals.

Flora, a Year 13 student, explained, “It has been lovely to get our school textile department involved in this show. Knowing the amount of work that goes into the students’ pieces, it will be really special for my peers to be able to present their garments while learning about these amazing charities.”

Children’s Hospice charity shops celebrating Sustainable September

Local children’s charity, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is celebrating a national initiative to increase awareness of sustainability this month as part of Sustainable September.

The charity has 39 shops across the south west selling goods to help raise funds to run CHSW’s 3 children’s hospices in the region; Little Bridge House in north Devon, Charlton Farm in north Somerset and Little Harbour in mid Cornwall.
