A challenging mud obstacle race supporting two local charities is coming to Weston-super-Mare in April.

Organised by Weston Lions, the aptly named Mud Master will be held at Puxton Park on Sunday 3 April.

It’s the first time an event of this kind has taken place in the town and the organisers are pleased to announce Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) and Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC) will benefit from the proceeds.

Hundreds of trees planted in support of local hospice charities

Hundreds of trees have been planted in North Devon in support of the region’s two hospice charities.

Last year, the Bratton Fleming-based company Birch Meadow Landscaping invited people to buy a tree for a minimum £4 donation to Children’s Hospice South West and North Devon Hospice.

At the weekend, Birch Meadow owner Edward Prouse and his team planted 200 trees donated through the scheme and presented cheques of £500 to each charity.

Hartnell Taylor Cook has announced its support of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) in its centenary year.


The commercial property consultancy with offices in Bristol and London, are proud to be supporting this charity which is close to their hearts. Its 98 employees in the firm will be supporting both CHSW and GOSH throughout 2022.


Hartnell Taylor Cook hopes to raise £100 per employee. Some staff in Bristol have already committed to take on the rescheduled Bath Half in May to raise funds, others have pledged to volunteer for the charity.

Happy Days raise over £1,000 and join Business Club

Last week children at Happy Days Nursery & Pre-School, Summercourt, were delighted to hand over a cheque for £1,300 to Alice Merrett, Area Fundraiser at Children’s Hospice South West, and collect their certificate for becoming a member of their Business Club 2022.

Handmade rocking horse gets new home at Little Harbour

A handmade, oak rocking horse has been donated to Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell after hours of work by one man creating it from scratch.

John, 77, a retired heating engineer had always been a keen woodworker and on moving to West Putford Holsworthy, eleven years ago met and had lessons from a professional wood turner living in the same hamlet.

Mike Brown from Plymstock but currently living in Mystic, Connecticut, USA, is cycling 17.1 miles a day from the 1st Jan until 8th July (188 days); the equivalent distance from Mystic to Charlton Farm children’s hospice near Bristol and here’s why.

In November 2019 Mike’s son Oliver died, aged 11, after a three year journey with a rare blood cancer. Oliver and his family were supported by Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) at its Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell.

A popular pub in the Mendips has raised over £3k for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).


For many years The Queen Victoria Inn in Priddy has put on the most incredible Christmas light display which has raised thousands of pounds for CHSW’s local hospice, Charlton Farm. This year, due to restrictions on social gatherings, staff at the Queen Vic felt it wouldn’t be appropriate to decorate the pub so, to show their support, they decided to organise a Santa run.

Cavanna Homes continues incredible support for children’s hospice

Cavanna Homes has announced that it will continue fundraising for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) as its charity of the year until the end of 2023.

The housebuilder has raised nearly £40,000 for CHSW since 2019 and has vowed to keep supporting the charity’s three South West hospices – Little Bridge House in North Devon, Charlton Farm in North Somerset, and Little Harbour in Cornwall – for a further two years.

Cavanna employees have organised golf days, bake sales, dress-down days, raffles and quizzes, and have cycled hundreds of miles to help the hospices provide vital care for local
