Fundraising partnership with Curo raises over £10k

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) has enjoyed a year-long partnership with Bath-based housing association Curo.

Curo staff chose CHSW as their charity of the year for 2017 and have taken part in numerous events, contributing to the fundraising total of more than £10,000. Individuals from Curo have hauled themselves through the mud - Rood Rampage and the winter Monster Race – in the name of charity, as well as entering the iconic Bath Half Marathon. We rely on our army of superb shop volunteers who help us run our 32 shops and raise much needed funds to support our three children's hospices. But with more volunteers we can do even more together!

In celebration of 25 years in business, the Wise Employment Group wanted to mark this special occasion by giving back to the local community within the South and South West network of branches.

The Group were excited to choose to work with Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) as it was not only a very worthy charity but had the same geographical match and was established in the same year.

Rugby legend Phil Vickery visits Little Bridge House sensory room

After 20 years of constant use, the sensory facilities at Children’s Hospice South West’s Little Bridge House in Fremington were in need of refurbishment. Thanks to generous funding, including a donation from the children’s charity of rugby, the Wooden Spoon Society, the hospice has been able to completely refurbish the room into a high tech multi-sensory play room which was visited by rugby legend Phil Vickery on Friday 12 January.

Our families are set for an even more exciting journey through our Chronicles of Narnia Sensory Garden at Little Bridge House, thanks to the installation of brand new sound effects.

They include enhanced sounds such as boots walking through snow, thunder and lightning, the bells of the Snow Queen’s sleigh and the roar of Aslan the Lion.

The work has been made possible thanks to funding from Tesco’s Bags of Help grant scheme, which comes from the sale of carrier bags in its stores, and Groundwork UK. Thank you to everyone who voted in their local store!
