Honiton charity shop celebrates 10 ‘wonderful’ years in town

Staff and volunteers at Honiton’s Children’s Hospice South West charity shop celebrated the shop’s 10th birthday this week.

The shop in the High Street opened its doors on December 16, 2010 and has been well-supported by people in the town, raising thousands of pounds for the charity, which offers vital respite care to children and families all over the South West.

In that time, more than 70,000 bags of goods have been donated to sell in the shop, and countless volunteers have donated thousands of hours of their time.

Students get creative for charitable causes

Throughout December, students at Bridgwater and Taunton College are getting creative and fundraising for a variety of charities.


‘RAGVENT’ as it is known, will be supporting Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), In Charley’s Memory, and Secret World Wildlife Rescue.


So far, the students have created and sold Christmas cards and crocheted animals, taken part in head shaves, an ice-bucket challenge, live-streamed a music set, experienced leg waxing and been dressing up! To date they have raised over £900.

Donations Brewing in St Ives for Children’s Hospice

St Ives Brewery, creators of St Ives India Pale Ale, Boilers Golden Cornish Ale and Knill by Mouth Cornish Ale to name a few, is generously donating 10% of its website sales to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).


The partnership started on 7 December and will be running until 21 December and will see 10% from all online sales made by the brewery donated to the local children’s charity. CHSW runs three children's hospices including Little Harbour in St Austell which supports over 130 children with life limiting conditions and their families from across Cornwall and Plymouth.

The big bauble hang in Clevedon

Lucy and James Grimsted from Clevedon have found a very novel way to support their local children’s hospice.


The kind-hearted pair have a beautiful wisteria tree in their garden and are inviting members of the public to hang a bauble for a donation to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).


A box of baubles is placed outside their home at 3 Seavale Road, Clevedon BS21 7QB, next to the tree daily from 7.30am – 10.30pm regardless of the weather. Donations can be posted through their letterbox or there is a QR code visible, which can be scanned.

Freestyling Santas Raise over £75,000 for CHSW

Over 1100 people across the south west took part in Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) Santas on the Run Goes Freestyle virtual event at the weekend and have raised over £75,000 for the local children’s hospice charity with donations still coming in.

CHSW’s three annual Santas on the Run events, usually held at RHS Rosemoor, Bristol Harbourside and Eden, were turned virtual this year due to covid-19 restrictions, but this did not deter people from getting involved. The ask was simple; choose a route, a distance and a festive outfit and raise funds for the charity at the same time. The

Cara-Jane from Street has been busy in the run-up to the festive season. The 7-year old has been making cute reindeer faces from wood and fabric and selling them to friends and family in support of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Customer care initiative benefits children’s hospice

Technical injection moulding specialist Hymid has raised £400 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) through a recent customer service initiative.

The Torquay-based company incentivised a recent customer survey by pledging to donate £10 for every completed survey returned.

Karen Tilley from Westbury has signed up to take part in Santas on the Run – goes freestyle to support the hospice that cares for her teenage daughter, Josselin.


The virtual festive run is raising money for Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) Charlton Farm hospice located in North Somerset. Karen was one of the first families to use the hospice for respite breaks over 12 years ago.

One man and his dog to take part in virtual Santa run

Andrew Buckle from Bradley Stoke and his dog Raff will be raising some Christmas cheer in their festive gear by taking part in Santas on the Run - goes freestyle, on 13th December.


With Andrew dressed as Santa and Raff in an Olaf suit, the pair will be making their way across the city from their home in Bradley Stoke to Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) Charlton Farm in Wraxall, North Somerset.


Raff, a 35kg yellow Labrador Retriever, will spend some of the 14-mile journey being pushed by Andrew in his festively decorated Dog Hut. It’s estimated it will take 6-7 hours to reach Charlton

Sports clubs getting ready to go freestyle

Gordano Sharks U13s rugby team and teams from Portishead Town FC are getting involved with Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) Santas on the Run goes freestyle! event.


Due to the pandemic, the charity has turned its annual festive Santas on the Run ‘virtual’ and is encouraging as many people as possible to get involved the weekend of 11-13 December.
