Teams grace the greens at Girling Jones golf day

Construction industry professionals from across the South West have been gracing the greens to raise more than £9,000 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Thirty teams battled it out at the fourth annual Girling Jones Golf Day at the Exeter Golf and Country Club on September 22.

The Exeter-based construction recruitment consultancy is a huge supporter of CHSW and has raised thousands of pounds for the charity during the last 10 years.

Alan's mountain race challenge raises thousands for hospice

Alan Dowrick from Bodmin participated in The Dragons Back Race and raised £2461.90p for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

The race, considered to be the toughest mountain race in the world, started from Conway Castle in North Wales, and ended at Cardiff Castle in the south of the country. It consisted of 6 days of running over rough terrain and Wales’ mountains, covering a total distance of 380km.

Colin’s tribute to The Queen features North Devon favourite

An illustration of Her Late Majesty the Queen buying a Hocking’s ice cream at Westward Ho! is helping to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Artist and cartoonist Colin Petty said he was inspired to create his print entitled ‘One Last One’ after seeing an image of The Queen and Paddington Bear after her death last month.

Colin, from Westward Ho!, said: “Someone suggested I do a similar image with the Queen and a North Devon landmark, so I created an image with an iconic Hocking’s Ice Cream van and emailed the company to ensure they were ok with being part of my project.”

Artists unveil Bear Hunt sculptures at exhibition in North Devon

Local artists have unveiled 25 individually painted bear sculptures at a private exhibition in Barnstaple.

The five-foot-tall bears have been taking shape in artists’ studios throughout the summer but were shown together for the first time at a private exhibition at the Petroc Lifestyle Centre on Thursday ahead of a colourful public sculpture trail in and around North Devon next spring.

Invited guests were given the chance to meet the bears and some of the artists who have been busy transforming the sculptures for the Bear Hunt Art Trail, being held in support of Children’s Hospice South West

Santas on the Run is back!

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is excited to announce that its annual Santas on the Run festive fun runs are returning this Christmas and can reveal two exciting new venues.

The Christmas themed 2km event will be returning to the Eden Project in St Austell on 4 December and then for the first time will be held at RMB Chivenor in Barnstaple and CHSW’s very own Charlton Farm children’s hospice in Wraxall on 11 December.

10 years of Little Harbour

This year Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is celebrating 10 years of providing care and support to local families at its Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell.

Little Harbour opened its doors in December 2011 following the success of the Precious Lives Appeal which saw £5 million raised by the local community in just four years to fund the build of the hospice on land at Porthpean which was kindly donated by local farming couple; the Late Howard and Shirley Rosevear.

Second hand uniform raises second donation

‘The Tavistock Pop-Up School Shop’ has recently donated a further £3299 to both Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) and The Primrose Foundation, following another busy few months of donations and sales in the shop.

The shop was set up by Abigail Underhill following the closure of Mount Kelly College’s second hand uniform shop. Abigail started the shop in the old games room of the Trout and Tipple and asked for donations of pre-loved Mount Kelly uniform, sports kit and equipment which would then be sold on to other pupils at the school with the money being shared between the two charities.

Cream Tea Hampers supporting children's hospice

The Cornish Hamper Store, proud retailers of hampers sent nationwide full to the brim of Cornish goodies, are going to be supporting Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) this autumn.

The Cornish Hamper Store, based in Redruth, will be donating 50p to CHSW which runs Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell from the sale of each cream tea hamper that is ordered between 26 September and 10 October.

Truro Golfers donate to two children’s charities

Organisers of an event held at Truro Golf Club in July have recently been able to donate to two charities supporting children and young people.

Truro Golf Club’s Seniors Open was held on 22 July and saw 168 players from across the county, and further afield, take part. Following the event £450 was donated to both Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) and Young Lives vs Cancer, both charities that support children, young people and their families as they face challenging medical diagnoses.

Freathy scarecrows prove they are more than just good looks

Scarecrows created by the Freathy community on the Rame Peninsula in Cornwall have proven they are more than just good looks by managing to raise £178 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

More than 20 local residents made their donation to CHSW and then got very creative with their entries into the Freathy Scarecrow competition which saw everything from scarecrow mermaids, surfers and lifeguards proudly displayed.
