Hayle based builders merchants; Cornwall Building Supplies, has recently donated £200 to Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) Little Harbour hospice in St Austell after running a ‘Hammer Hold’ competition.

Customers and staff alike got very competitive to see who could hold the hammer for the longest time during the competition which ran over the last few months. With prizes worth £150 up for grabs for the male and female winners, competitors were entering time and time again to try to obtain the longest time. Cornwall Buidling Supplies kindly match funded every £1 that was donated to enter the competition which brought the total donated to Little Harbour children’s hospice to £200.

Reflecting on the fundraiser Danny Clackworthy, Branch Manager at Cornwall Building Supplies said ”At Cornwall Building Supplies we are passionate about supporting our local community. With this past year being so strange for us all,

we wanted to bring some fun, laughter and positive spirit to our customers, whilst supporting Little Harbour which is when we came up with a Hammer Hold competition.

The atmosphere which the competition created was amazing, so many people got involved and we had some competitors entering time after time trying to beat their mates scores! We are so delighted to be able to donate £200 to Little Harbour and we are already planning what we can do next to give further support.”

On receiving the donation on behalf of Little Harbour Alice Merrett, Area Fundraiser, said “Fundraising naturally slowed during the pandemic but it is definitely picking up again now and to see innovative fundraising ideas like this happening in local businesses is fantastic. Thank you to everyone who got involved, we really are grateful.”

Money raised from the Hammer Hold competition will go towards the care and support the team at Little Harbour provide to more than 140 local children and families. Children supported by the hospice have life limiting illnesses so families can use Little Harbour for resilience and emergency stays as well as end of life care and bereavement support. Since the start of the pandemic the team has also been doing visits to support families in their own homes and offering virtual contact to assist with isolation.
