Ben’s legacy lives on for Little Harbour

A fundraising event held recently in memory of Ben Pinkham raised £2680 for Children's Hospice South West (CHSW) which runs Little Harbour children's hospice in St Austell.

Ben, a keen footballer for Saltash United, died tragically in 2003 when he was just 21, the fundraiser was organised to mark what would have been Ben’s 40th birthday year.

Sunflower trail blooming for Little Harbour

St Austell Sunflower Trail has opened at Higher Tregorrick Farm in St Austell and is helping to raise vital funds for the nearby children’s hospice; Little Harbour.

The trail opened on Tuesday 9 August and will be open for at least two weeks while the sunflowers are in full bloom. Entry gives you access to fields of sunflowers and unique views across St Austell as well as the opportunity to purchase cut sunflowers to take home with you.

Mini run maestro Terry honoured for 25 years of fabulous fundraising

The driving force behind North Devon's annual Mini run has been honoured for more than a quarter-of-a-century of fundraising for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Terry Baker organised the first Legendary Grand Tour for the charity in 1996 after meeting a young Mini fan at the Little Bridge House children’s hospice in Fremington.

The event has since become an annual favourite over the August Bank Holiday weekend, attracting Mini enthusiasts from all over the world and raising hundreds of thousands of pounds to help provide vital care for children and young people with life-limiting

Golfers in Cornwall complete 101 holes in a day for charity

Four local golfers have raised £1,834.74 for Children’s Hospice South West when they broke the record for most holes of golf played in one day, by a fourball in daylight hours.

The awesome foursome played at Falmouth Golf Club in June and completed 101 holes of golf, with no buggies as assistance. They started this epic challenge at 05:30 and finished at 21:40, exhausted, but motivated by the money they had raised.

Jenny’s special reason for taking on Great Bristol Run

Bristol mum-of-two Jenny Milton will have a very special motivation to reach the first of two finish lines when she takes on the Great Bristol Run this weekend.

Jenny, a member of the Sibling Support Team at Children’s Hospice South West’s Charlton Farm Hospice in Wraxall, will be taking on the city’s much-loved 10k on September 25 to raise money for the charity. After that, she will be lacing up her running shoes again to take on the Bath Half on October 16.

A Marshfield man will be one of the oldest to take on this year’s TCS London Marathon.

Eddie Sedgemore, who is set to celebrate his 80th birthday on August 4, will be taking on the famous road race for the fifth time on Sunday, October 2.

Mini club hands over sizeable donation

The Cornish Mini Club has donated £1000 each to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) and Cornwall Blood Bikes following this year’s Riviera Run.

The 3 day event, which was held over the early May bank holiday at Pentewan Sands Holiday Park, saw hundreds of classic and modern minis on display, competing in various competitions, out and about around Cornwall and owners enjoying entertainment and events at the holiday park.

Kevin’s Chitty Chitty Bang Bang replica raises smiles at children’s hospice

A dedicated super fan of the 1968 classic film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang embarked on a lockdown project to create a replica of the flying car featured in the film.

Kevin Edge, a retired kitchen fitter from Lympstone, made the magical car in his workshop, using various materials, including household objects such as a toilet brush holder and a thermal flask.

Members of the community donated parts to support Kevin’s creation; a local garage donated car dials, while an upholsterer donated real leather for the seats.
