Over £12,000 has been raised for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) following its Jail and Bail fundraising event which was held at Bodmin Jail on Friday 18^th October and donations are still rolling in.

6 local people took part in the event which involved individuals getting arrested and put on trial for fictitious crimes including possessing a loud shirt in a rural area and impersonating a fitness freak while eating cake. Once found guilty each prisoner was tasked with raising £999 to be set free. 

Prisoners were; Dan Martland from Farmer’s Arms St Merryn, Graham Robinson from Polymermedics, Neal Edmonds from Llawnroc Group, Stephen Lay from St Austell, Stuart Lobb Managing Director at Countrywide and Tim Styles from St Austell Town Council.

Kiley Pearce, Events Fundraiser for CHSW said “We have had an absolutely brilliant day,

thank you to all of our ‘prisoners’ who worked tirelessly throughout the day getting in touch with all their contacts and receiving some really generous donations towards their bail.

Luke Hodge, local fireman and Dad inspired the prisoners by sharing his family’s story about the support they receive from Little Harbour children’s hospice for their son Seth. “Little Harbour has been a massive part of our lives over the last three years and has been a game changer for me and my family. Seth requires care 24 hours a day and

I admit I was a little bit frightened of what to expect at Little Harbour but the staff and the facilities really are fantastic.

Some of the things we have been able to do as a family we simply wouldn’t have been able to do without Little Harbour.”

Thanks go to Bodmin Police Station for their support, Bodmin Jail, HSBC and Barnett Photo Studio. Also assisting on the day were Leanne Elliott from Certitude Cleaning Services who acted as the judge, Neil Skyba who played the Clerk of the Court and Richard Woods from Phoneta who acted as the prosecutor.

Money raised from the event will go towards the care and support that CHSW offers to children with life threatening and life limiting illnesses and their families. Little Harbour in St Austell is currently supporting 125 local children and families as well as 30 bereaved families and provides a great deal of respite care as well as end of life care and bereavement support.
