Helen and her son, Ryan
A bereaved mum from Cornwall is doing a tandem skydive in memory of her son.

Helen Saltern, from Delabole, is planning to take to the sky and complete the bucket list jump to also celebrate her 60th birthday.

Helen’s son Ryan was killed in a hit-and-run in July 2019, and her skydive on April 30 is being held close to what would have also been Ryan’s 35 birthday.

Helen has chosen to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) which runs the Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell.

She described her son as a ‘charity person’ himself, as he participated in fundraising for a number of different charities.

Helen said: “I know the pain, it doesn’t matter how old your child is, to lose a child is devastating.

I chose CHSW as the children are so brave, as well as their parents.

Helen had hoped to raise £500, but she has already raised more than £1,200, and she hopes to increase that even further before her jump.

She said: “What CHSW does, and how the charity makes that journey easier for the parents is worth every penny, I wish I could do more.”

Area Fundraiser for CHSW, Alice Merrett, said: “We are so lucky to have amazing people like Helen doing such incredible things for us!

“She is an inspirational lady and we cannot thank her enough for her support.”
