Hikers complete epic challenge for Children’s Hospice South West

27 May 2026 CHSW

A group of 44 supporters of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) took on the charity’s Incredible Hike last weekend, walking 60 miles along the South West Coast Path. The Incredible Hike is raising vital funds to support babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families. So far, the event has raised £85,000 with donations continuing to come in.

Starting in Tintagel and finishing in St Agnes, the hikers made their way along the rugged Cornish cliffs and above sandy bays as they passed through iconic locations including Port Isaac, Padstow and Newquay, before reaching the finish line celebrations at St Agnes.

Beth Weekes, a Sibling Support Worker at Little Bridge House children’s hospice in Barnstaple, has taken part in Incredible Hike for the past 3 years. Beth said:
“Wow, what another fantastic Incredible Hike! I just want to thank everyone who took part for all the amazing memories, laughs and support. Thank you to the whole team at CHSW for looking after us so well over the weekend.”

With elevations reaching over 8,500ft in some sections, this stretch of the South West Coast Path is widely regarded as one of the toughest. Despite the physical challenge, hikers were rewarded with breathtaking coastal views and an overwhelming sense of achievement.

Kate Romo, Events Fundraiser for CHSW, shared her pride and emotion at the finish line:
“What these hikers have achieved this weekend is nothing short of incredible. They have pushed themselves through some really tough terrain, shown real determination, and supported one another every step of the way. Seeing them arrive at the finish line at St Agnes, tired, emotional, but so proud, was truly special. The atmosphere was amazing and it’s a moment none of us will forget. We couldn’t be prouder of every single one of them.”

Participants were supported throughout the fully guided 3 day challenge by the CHSW events team, with accommodation, meals and bag transfers all taken care of, allowing them to focus on the experience, the challenge and the cause. Kate added: “What makes this event so special is the camaraderie. There’s such a strong sense of teamwork and encouragement, people really lift each other up when it gets tough. We’re also incredibly grateful to our water stops, lunch and dinner hosts, and our fantastic finish venue, who helped make the whole weekend such a success.”
