Colour Run and Epic Walking Challenge Raise Thousands for Children’s Hospice South West Fry’s
Junior Football Club has been showing outstanding community spirit and support for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) through a vibrant Colour Run event and an ambitious walking challenge in June.
Over 250 children took part in the Frys Junior Football Club Colour Run on Sunday 26 April, raising an incredible £5,000 so far through crowdfunding on JustGiving, with further sponsorship still to be collected in aid of CHSW and the club. The event, generously supported by numerous local businesses, created an electric atmosphere with a real sense of community pride.
Dana and her daughter Zeniah, along with Stacey and Cathy from the CHSW care team, attended the Colour Run, where Dana delivered an inspiring speech to the participants. Zeniah, who is supported by the hospice, was also there to enjoy the event. Feedback from the day has been overwhelmingly positive, and the club has already confirmed plans to run the Colour Run event again in 2026.
Mark Grinter, one of the Frys coaches captured the spirit of the day perfectly and commented:
It was an inspiration to meet Zeniah and her Mum today. We love everyone from Children’s Hospice South West.
Building on this momentum, Fry’s Junior Football Club is preparing for an extraordinary walking challenge this June, Mark, Tom, and Andy — all coaches at the club — will set off on an epic trek from Land’s End to the Pavilion in Keynsham, stopping at each of the three CHSW hospices along the way. Their stops will include Little Harbour near St Austell to Little Bridge House near Barnstaple and finishing at Charlton Farm in North Somerset.
Covering around 30 miles a day from 7 to 14 June, the coaches are already deep into training for the 200 mile journey. They are calling on the local community to support their effort, both in raising awareness and vital funds for CHSW and the club.
"Andy Glover, 1 of the 3 coaches taking part in the challenge, said: “Every skip, stroll, and stride in our sponsored walk helps the Children’s Hospice South West go the extra mile for amazing families. We’re stepping up, hopping forward, and leaving a trail of smiles with every footstep!”
Heidi Roberts, Area Fundraiser for CHSW, praised the club’s extraordinary efforts:
Fry’s Junior Football Club are an inspirational team who have created a wonderful ethos of giving and teamwork with the young people at the club.
"This walk, covering over 200 miles, will further inspire the young people to support Children’s Hospice South West. I cannot thank the coaches enough for all their hard work raising awareness of our cause, and I wish them the very best on this incredible journey; I hope to see them along the route!" Mark added: “This will be the challenge of a lifetime, and to do it for CHSW and Fry's Junior Football Club will be one of my proudest moments once the walk is completed.'"
