A former Army Sergeant Major is to walk, row or run 11 miles a day for 11 days in the run up to Remembrance Day to raise money for the charity he works for.

Matt Norman, who served in 7 Para RHA from Gnr (Gunner) to Regimental Sergeant Major, has launched a ‘Remembrance Challenge’ to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) where he works as Operations Lead at its Charlton Farm Hospice in Wraxall.

Business people from across Bristol are to face a spell behind bars – to raise money for charity.

The van load of ‘prisoners’ from businesses across the area are taking part in Jail and Bail which will see them ‘jailed’ for a series of fictitious crimes to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West.

The ‘prisoners’, all wearing orange prison boiler suits, will be taken to the Old Bridewell Police Station in Bristol on October 25 where they will be charged with their crimes before being fingerprinted and having their mugshots taken.

Students at a Bristol school have raised more than £1,000 for a children’s hospice as a thank you to a little pony which used to visit them each Christmas.

Rosie the pony has been a regular visitor each Christmas to The Downs Preparatory School in Wraxall since 2011, attending festive assemblies. Rosie is owned by Gill Impey whose daughter used to attend the school.

Gill, who initially welcomed Rosie into the family as a companion for her dressage horse, said:

Former Gogglebox star Marina Wingrove is to step back from her fundraising work – after raising £41,000 for good causes.

Marina has been a keen supporter of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) over the years, raising £11,396 for the charity from events including coffee mornings, afternoon teas and Christmas fairs.

Now Marina, who rose to fame on the Channel 4 TV show alongside her friend Mary Cook, has put away her best china and, after a 17 year stint of fundraising, has hosted her last ever coffee morning.

A husband and wife singing duo has recorded a single to raise money for a children’s hospice in memory of a little girl who was cared for by the charity.

Claire and Dean have recorded their own version of the song ‘Special’, originally written by ska and reggae band The Dualers. The single is raising money for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) in memory of Phoebe who was supported by the charity.

Phoebe, was first referred to CHSW’s Charlton Farm hospice in Wraxall when she was just 3 years-old. She was supported by the team at Charlton Farm until she died aged 7 earlier this year.

Taste of the West, the UK’s largest independent regional food group, has announced it will be supporting Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) as its long term regional charity partner.

The group, which promotes and supports local food and drink producers from across the Westcountry, will be supporting CHSW which offers care and support to children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families, through its three hospices across the South West.

A pensioner who had only ever stepped foot on a plane to go on holiday took to the skies to complete a charity wing walk.

Liz from Chiselborough, was strapped to the wings of the plane which took off from Dunkerswell Airfield in Devon to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Retired teacher Liz, 73, who works as a community champion at Morrisons supermarket in Yeovil, opted for her trip across the skies after her colleagues at the store signed up to complete a skydive in aid of the charity Together for Short Lives.

A dad of 3 swam, ran and cycled across Bristol to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West.

Chris 43, of Stoke Gifford, took part in the triathlon at Westcountry Water Park in Bristol, swimming 500 metres in the lake before cycling 10 kilometres and running 5 kilometres. Chris, an associate director at HSBC, spent the last few months training to prepare for the sporting challenge.

Chris said: “I used to play a lot of rugby when I was younger and I fancied a new challenge. I prepared by getting into the gym and going out cycling and swimming.”

Chris was inspired to raise money for Children

A couple from St Austell are taking on a Dip a Day challenge this September in support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Sam and James Dickenson are taking to the chilly seas in their eye-catching yellow swimsuits everyday for 30 days.

Not only are the couple raising awareness for Childhood Cancer, they’re also supporting Children Hospice South West’s Little Harbour hospice, which is situated in Porthpean, right near the beach the couple swim at.

The hospice means a lot to the family, as it supported them all throughout their youngest son Seth’s battle with cancer. Seth died in May 2021

Little Harbour is the proud owner of a new pirate ship in its garden.

The ship is wheelchair accessible, and is a wonderful new play asset to the hospice’s sea themed, interactive garden.

But the boat isn’t just something for the families who visit the hospice to enjoy, the boat is in memory of Seth Dickenson, who died of a brain tumour in May 2021, aged 7.

Seth’s family have been coming to Little Harbour since 2020, and the place is a home from home to them. They still make regular visits to remember Seth.
