Village's marrow auction raises hundreds for hospice
Villagers in Upton in Somerset have helped raise nearly £2,000 for Children’s Hospice South West.
Most of the money was raised at October’s annual Marrow Sunday Charity Auction at the Lowtrow Cross Inn. The annual auction, which been running for more than 25 years, took a year off last year but made a welcome return in 2019.
Of the £1,925 total, £500 was raised by local resident Kevin Hancock’s sponsored head shave.
On behalf of the organisers, Mary Coombes said: “We would like say a huge thank-you to everyone who supported the event in any way, either by donating to the auction or turning up on the day to bid and buy - the amount raised was overwhelming and your generosity is greatly appreciated.”
