Ukulele band’s sounds are music to the ears of children's hospice

The Riviera Ukulele Band played at The Hyde Dendy Big Weekend in Paignton

Ukulele players brought the sounds of Hawaii to Paignton seafront and raised money for their local children’s hospice.

The Riviera Ukulele Band formed part of a three-day line-up of live music at The Hyde Dendy Big Weekend last month.

The event, organised by the seafront pub-restaurant and led by local musician Phil Bowden, featured a number of live musical acts, with the ukulele band taking the stage on the Sunday afternoon.

The band, which formed in November 2017 and performs in and around Torbay area, collected £143 for Children’s Hospice South West, which is the band’s chosen charity for the year.

Chairman Stuart Elliman said the band had a great time playing to crowds in the sunshine and raising money for charity.

"The band thoroughly enjoyed playing – we were well received and there is a possibility of a return visit on similar terms,” he said.
