Happy Days Nurseries show unrelenting support for CHSW
Happy Days Nurseries & Pre Schools have been key supporters of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), and its Little Harbour hospice since 2017.
Happy Days has been running for 30 years and now has 35 nurseries across the South West and Wales.
Both Happy Days and CHSW have very similar aims, with the care of children being at the heart of what they do.
Happy Days has become extremely connected, and dedicated, to CHSW over the last 8 years. The nurseries have even had children in their care who have benefitted from the services of Little Harbour, making the charity very close to their hearts.
The company has shown their support for CHSW in various ways. They are members of CHSW’s Business Club and regularly attend the networking events put on at Little Harbour.
Happy Days also attend CHSW’s iconic Rainbow Run Cornwall held at RAF St Mawgan and recently sponsored the yellow paint station at the event for the 7th year running, as well as providing face painting to the runners; helping bring sunshine, laughter and joy to the course. CHSW has been the company’s Charity of the Year several times, and all the nurseries across the region have held bake sales and open days in support.
Rebekah Fice-Thomson, Marketing Manager at Happy Days Nurseries, said:
It's been a privilege to, in some small way, make a difference to the lives of the children and families that use Children's Hospice South West. The nursery teams are a competitive bunch and like to outdo each other when raising money for the hospice as they too realise it's such an important local cause.
Alice Avery is Happy Days’ Digital Marketing Executive. She started working at the Summercourt nursery in December 2023 where “her passion for CHSW began.”
She is taking to the skies at Perranporth Airfield on the 13 September 2025 where she will be completing a tandem skydive in aid of CHSW.
Alice grew up in Pentewan, nearby to CHSW’s Little Harbour hospice.
Alice said: “I knew of Little Harbour, but I never really knew what happened there, and I’d never been inside.”
After starting her job at the nursery, she had the opportunity to visit Little Harbour and quickly became inspired. She now regularly attends the Business Club networking events at the hospice, and knew she wanted to do something further to support to charity.
“Learning about the love, care and support they provide for children with life-limiting conditions and their families was so moving. I saw a list of things at a Business Club event of ways I could support the charity, and I can’t run, so I chose a skydive”, Alice said laughing. “I’ve already done one in Australia, so I thought why not do one again”, she continued.
Alice has set up a tuck shop in her office in Summercourt. Her target is £500, and donations on her JustGiving page have already reached £430.
She said;
CHSW is nothing short of extraordinary. Every single team member is phenomenal; their dedication, compassion and strength are deeply inspiring. I’ve lived just down the road my whole life, but never truly knew what went on inside. That made my first visit all the more powerful. The warmth, the welcome, and the sense of family they create is wonderful. I'm so close to my £500 target, if you are able to donate, I would very much appreciate it. This charity holds a very special place in my heart, and I’m so excited to continue supporting them alongside Happy Days, whether that’s via another skydive or finally learning how to run properly!
