Children’s Hospice charity shops celebrating Sustainable September
Local children’s charity, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is celebrating a national initiative to increase awareness of sustainability this month as part of Sustainable September.
The charity has 39 shops across the south west selling goods to help raise funds to run CHSW’s 3 children’s hospices in the region; Little Bridge House in north Devon, Charlton Farm in north Somerset and Little Harbour in mid Cornwall.
With second-hand fashion on the rise, CHSW estimates that so far this year sales from its shops have diverted 418 tonnes of items from landfill and saved over 5 million tonnes of CO2 simply by customers buying preloved products rather than brand new.
Chris Judd, Head of Retail at CHSW, said; “Charity shops on our high streets play such a valuable role; reducing CO2, reducing waste going to landfill alongside providing opportunities for the community and vitally raising much needed funds to keep our 3 hospices running.”
This month CHSW is reminding everyone to visit their local charity shop, browse the preloved items for a bargain and is encouraging everyone to declutter with purpose.
Chris said; “By decluttering and donating your goods to our shops you will not only gain space in your home, you will be helping to fill space in our shops and importantly save space at landfill for what cannot be reused or recycled.”
