Despite the pandemic, Bathavon Rotary Club is continuing to actively support projects in the community and has generously donated £5,000 to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Bathavon Rotary Club Secretary, Michael Wood, has been aware of CHSW’s work for over a decade. He said: “I used to live in North Devon and, along with friend from Braunton Rotary Club, was a volunteer gardener at CHSW’s Little Bridge House hospice. The work they do across the South West is vital and as such is a well-deserving cause.”

Frances Kenneally Community Fundraiser at CHSW, delivered a ‘virtual’ talk to Bathavon Rotary Club and subsequently its members were delighted to be able to donate £5,000 to benefit CHSW’s local hospice, Charlton Farm in Wraxall.

Charlton Farm currently cares for more than 220 families from Bath, Bristol, Somerset and West Wiltshire. The hospice remains open but at this current time the only families staying in house are those requiring end of life, emergency and symptom control stays. All routine respite has for now been cancelled, however, the multidisciplinary care team continues to provide ongoing support to families in their own homes, virtually, and via the phone.

Frances said: “Bathavon’s incredible donation will be used to fund a variety of activities for the children we support. It will also enable us to purchase a new ¾ bed for our teenagers. We’d like to express our sincere thanks for their gift in what has been an extremely challenging year.”
