Graduate Takes on 111-Mile Coastal Challenge to Support Local Children’s Hospice A recent graduate is preparing to take on a demanding 111-mile coastal walk this May, raising vital funds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).
Freya, who graduated from Oxford Brookes University in September 2025, has set herself a series of personal challenges during a gap year designed to push her beyond her comfort zone. Currently working as a chalet host in Les Arcs, she will return to the UK in May to begin her latest and most ambitious endeavour yet. From 9 to 19 May, Freya and her dad, Craig will walk 111 miles of the iconic South West Coast Path, starting in Penzance, travelling via the Isles of Scilly, rounding Land’s End, and finishing at Trevose Head.
Speaking ahead of the challenge, Freya said: “I wanted to take on something meaningful before heading out to France, something that would challenge me personally while also giving back. The South West Coast Path felt like the perfect choice.” Freya is already close to reaching her fundraising target, having raised £1,200 of her £1,500 goal.
Freya added:
We had the opportunity to visit Charlton Farm in North Somerset last November, and it was both humbling and inspiring. Seeing first-hand the care and compassion they provide made us even more determined to support their work.
The local children’s hospice provides expert care and support for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions across the region. With services including short breaks, specialist play, sibling support and end-of-life care, CHSW relies almost entirely on public donations to continue its work.
Less than 11% of its annual £14 million running costs comes from government funding.
Anna Ross, Head of Fundraising for CHSW, added: “We are incredibly grateful to Freya and Craig for taking on this amazing challenge in support of Children’s Hospice South West."
Their generosity, determination, and commitment to training for a demanding 111-mile walk help ensure that we can continue to care for babies, children, and young people with life-limiting conditions.
"Every single donation helps families feel supported when they need it most.”
With the walk taking place during National Walking Month, Freya is also encouraging others to get involved: “Why not take on your own walking challenge this May?
Whether it’s a short daily walk or a bigger hike, it’s a great way to support an incredible cause while doing something positive for yourself.”
Freya will be sharing updates from her journey on social media, documenting the highs and challenges of the 11-day trek.
The countdown is on!
“Onwards!” Freya said.
