A dynamic blend of business, sport and charity came together on Thursday 18 September as Wollens Solicitors and PKF-Francis Clark hosted Torbay’s inaugural Business Padel Tournament, raising vital funds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).
Held at the PDL Padel United UK courts, the event saw 16 energetic teams from across the region compete in a lively tournament that combined networking, friendly competition and community spirit.
The evening was a resounding success, with participants from companies including Bettesworths, Bays Brewery, Devon Tarmasters, Charles Darrow Ltd, Nevada Construction, Philip Meek Mortgages, KK Restaurants SW Ltd, Torquay United Football Club, South Devon College, Handlesbanken, and Bob & Barneys Limited.
Daniela Hopkins, Area Fundraiser for CHSW, attended the event and shared her appreciation:
It was truly inspiring to see so many local businesses come
together not just for a fun and competitive evening, but to
support the work we do at Children’s Hospice South West. The energy and enthusiasm on court was matched only by the
generosity off court. Every pound raised helps us continue
providing vital care for babies, children, young people and their families across the South West.
The event was organised through a collaboration between Wollens and PKF-Francis Clark, whose teams worked tirelessly to bring the tournament to life. Their efforts were widely praised by attendees and organisers alike, with many already calling for the event to become an annual fixture.
Michelle Pugh from Wollens reflected on the success of the evening and extended heartfelt thanks to everyone involved:
“What a fantastic success the first Business Padel Tournament in Torquay was! We were delighted to welcome 16 teams who competed with great energy and enthusiasm for the first-ever tournament trophies. The weather held off, and the evening was made even more special as we raised much-needed funds for Children's Hospice South West – a cause close to our hearts. The teams battled through group stages, semi-finals, and finals, with congratulations going to our two winners, Torquay United Football Club (Cup Final) and South Devon College (Plate Final). Thank you to everyone who came along and played in such great spirits. The social side of the evening was just as enjoyable, with snacks, drinks, and delicious pizza served up by the fantastic il Cornicione. All in all, it was a
fantastic event—and we’re already talking about next year’s tournament!”
Echoing that enthusiasm, Tamsin Tully and Talia Tucker of PKF-Francis Clark shared their pride in
supporting such a meaningful cause:
It was a privilege to organise this padel tournament in support of Children’s Hospice South West. Under the expert guidance of Sally Lewin of PDL United, the teams were set from the outset – and watching the event come together so smoothly was a
moment of immense pride for us all. As representatives of
PKF-Francis Clark, we were delighted to support such a
meaningful cause alongside our friends at Wollens. The energy on the court and the generosity off it made for a truly
memorable evening, and we look forward to organising a
similar event with Wollens again next year.
