StarTrek Challenge 2020 has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
A new date will be announced shortly.
Aimed at groups of 4-6 people, the team leader must be 18 or over and the youngest member must not be under 16.
Knowledge of map and compass reading is essential as the route takes you over common and moorland for 16 or 8 miles. To add to the challenge, clues, cryptic and others need to be found en route! StarTrek is not a race, its a test of initiative, stamina and team building.
For your safety, a kit inspection takes place before you can walk; we have search teams positioned throughout the route and check-points at regular intervals.
The location is TOP SECRET and will be disclosed one week prior, when teams are advised of their start time; between 6.00pm and 10.00pm. Refreshments are provided at the start, halfway house and at the finish.
It’s a walk on Exmoor and yes it’s challenging, but talk to anybody who has done it and they will tell you what a good experience it is.
Only 100 teams can participate based on a first come first served basis.
For the Ilfracombe Rotary Clubs, StarTrek is now one of the largest fund raising events done by any Rotary Club in Great Britain. Our invite to you... rise to the challenge!

Rotary Startrek is a night walk competition on Exmoor. Teams use basic orienteering skills to navigate across the moor in the dark using only a compass and map, answering questions on the way. Winners are judged on both time taken and clues answered correctly.
The event is usually held on the first weekend in March, so be ready for anything weather wise! Teams of 4 to 6 will be set off at intervals from 6.00pm and the event concludes when all teams are safely back. In the morning when you finish, the freshly cooked refreshments with piping hot tea or coffee will taste better than any food ever has!
Your team can choose to walk either the Full Trek, approximately 16 miles or the Half Trek 8 miles. The full course has two loops; each loop starts and finishes at base camp. At the half way point you will be offered refreshments including hot and cold food to ensure you are ready for the next stage. Base camp location is a closely guarded secret until the day.
The course is marshalled with regular check points. You will have the support on the night of the Ilfracombe Rotary Clubs, St John’s Ambulance and Raynet assisted search and rescue. Everything is done to ensure your total safety.
