One of the most fun and challenging events in the triathlon calendar

An Olympic distance triathlon based at the beautiful, award-winning Putsborough Sands and taking place in some of the South West’s most stunning scenery.  This Olympic distance triathlon is a course to be reckoned with and certainly not for the faint hearted.  The challenging course includes a 1.5km ocean swim, 38km road bike and 12km off road run.

The routes

1.5km ocean swim

Along Putsborough beach, in the Atlantic ocean, marshalled by fully qualified lifeguards. Once out of the water there is a steep run back into transition.

38km road bike course

Starting above Putsborough beach, the route winds its way towards the historitc Pickwell Manor and up onto higher ground heading towards Ilfracombe. Heading through the Fullabrook Wind Farm with rolling hills and beautiful views, there is something to see at every turn and plenty of elevation to challenge all competitors.  View the Strava link.

12km off road run

Demanding, hilly and possibly muddy route (where you may encounter the odd sheep)! This is a fantastic run devised by local athletes to give you fabulous views of all three bays: Putsborough, Saunton and Croyde.  View the Strava link.

The rules

  • No drafting.
  • You must wear a cycle helmet.
  • Wetsuits (cuff to ankle) are compulsory.
  • No MP3 players or similar.
  • No littering and you must mount and dismount at the designated points.
  • The latest British Triathlon rules will apply.

Putsborough Beach, Devon, EX33 1LB

Car parking

Putsborough Beach has a large independently run car park and charges £8.50 per car per day.  Free parking for season pass holders.

Setting up your bike

The transition area will be open from 6am on Sunday 14 July 2019.

Race briefing

7.10am next to the transition area at Putsborough. This is compulsory.


  • Saturday 13 July 2019, 6.30pm to 9pm at The Thatch pub in Croyde.
  • Sunday 14 July 2019, 6am – 7.10am at Putsborough Beach.

Race start 

Race starts at 8.00am for the first wave. Please note: you have to start making your way to the start line directly after the compulsory race briefing.

Feed stations

There will be drinks station on the run route with water and small snacks available.

Race cut offs

  • Swim: 9.15am
  • Bike: 11.30am
  • Total: 1.30pm

*based on 8am start time (Race Director may change times depending on conditions).
