When Ethan was born, he suffered a catastrophic brain injury, and we were faced with an unimaginable situation for any parent, discussing end of life care for our baby boy.
Ethan proved to be a little fighter.
Against all the odds he responded to treatment and did better than anyone could have imagined. Eventually, when Ethan was 15 months old, we were able to bring our little boy home. Ethan is now 9.
CHSW has been there for us through some of the hardest moments of our lives, as well as some of the most precious. They have helped us find moments of joy when we’ve needed them most.

At the hospice, it’s not just the care and support that makes such a difference. It’s also the friendships we’ve made and the shared understanding between families who are going through something similar. Sometimes it’s a conversation. Sometimes it’s laughter or tears. And sometimes it’s simply being together with people who just understand. Those moments create a sense of community that every parent needs.
Ethan lives with quadriplegic cerebral palsy and has complex medical needs that require care and support around the clock. He is fed through a tube and needs help with moving, playing and personal care.
But if you were to meet Ethan, the first thing you would notice is his infectious smile.
From our very first visit we saw what an amazing, beautiful and welcoming place it was and we continue to visit for family stays.
For us, the hospice is a lifeline. It’s a place where we can find comfort and care, but also make connections, relax as a family and, most importantly, make magical memories together.
One of my favourite memories is from last Christmas. Ethan loved seeing all the lights, laughed so much and even had a very special visit from Father Christmas. Everything was adapted around him, so he could enjoy the magic of Christmas in his own way. That’s what makes the hospice so special.
