Cornish couple turn 100 and raise money for local children’s hospice
A couple from St Ives who have been married for nearly 77 years have just celebrated turning 100 within a week of each other. Cyril and Iris Curnow, from Carbis Bay, both grew up in St Ives and have known each other since they were teenagers.
The couple asked for donations for Little Harbour Children’s Hospice in lieu of gifts at their birthday celebrations and raised a fantastic £760.
Cyril says the secret to a long life and happy marriage for him is to "be very tolerant" while Iris said: "It is give and take and never let the sun go down on any bad feeling."
Hilary Renowden, their daughter, said: “Mum and dad always give and think of others before themselves. They have had wonderful friendships over the years and have always been thankful for the love and blessings of their family.” 
Their donations for Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) Little Harbour hospice in Porthpean, St Austell will make a huge difference to the lives of the children, young people and their families that require the hospice’s services.
Amanda Masters, Area Fundraiser for CHSW, said: From all of us at Little Harbour, we want to wish Cyril and Iris all the happiness in the world, and we thank them sincerely for making such an incredible donation the hospice.
Cyril and Iris now like to spend time with their family – daughter Hilary and son-in-law Roger, grandchildren Wendy and Nicholas and their partners, plus three beautiful great granddaughters – Mia, Eva and Ellie. They also enjoy a Sunday lunch at the White Hart in Hayle and the occasional visit to McDonalds for a chicken wrap and coffee.
