Ride for Precious Lives

Three days, three counties, three hospices…

Ride for Precious Lives is one of the highlights in our events calendar, it is our annual 205 mile, three day cycle challenge.

The ride takes in each of our three children’s hospices; Little Harbour near St Austell, Little Bridge House near Barnstaple and Charlton Farm near Bristol. The buzz and camaraderie between the cyclists over the three days is one of the event’s big draws.

This exceptional event attracts cyclists of all abilities and has raised over £335,000 in the last five years!

Cyclists who have taken part have been inspired by the children and families they met along the way at our three hospices, together with the care team and family members that take part too - and it is this that makes the Ride for Precious Lives a truly unique cycle event and a must do on any cyclist’s calendar.

Important Ride 2016 event information

Arrowhead Management have provided us with a full Rider Safety Brief, please ensure you read this before next week.

Please grab a cuppa and take five minutes to read through this important information about the weekend. If you have any questions please contact us at rfpl@chsw.org.uk.

Thursday evening

Please arrive at Little Harbour between 4.30pm - 8.00pm on Thursday 7 July to register and drop off your bike for safekeeping. At registration we will distribute ordered cycle jerseys and ask for rough fundraising totals to help us gauge our fundraising total so far! If you would like to book a space on the minibus from your hotel for the following morning, you can do this then.

The Arrowhead Management Team will then check over your bike, issue your rider number to attach to your bike, give you your luggage tag and do a final check over of your medical declaration. You will then need to make your own way to your hotels for the evening, however if you are staying locally to Little Harbour we may be able assist you with transport or organising a taxi.

Bikes lined up at a rest stop

Friday morning

You'll need to arrive at Little Harbour between 7.00am - 7.30am to 'tick in', drop off your luggage and collect your bike. To help overcome the early start, we are putting on a light breakfast, which will stop promptly at 7.30am to ensure we stay on schedule for the morning.

From 8.00am there will then be some special words from CHSW and an important cyclist briefing from Arrowhead. We will then have a group photo and aim to set you off in staggered starts between approximately 8.30am - 9.00am.

The luggage vehicle

The luggage vehicle will take your bag from the start to the finish each day. There will be no access to your luggage during the day, so please carry on your person any items you require for the day (money for a drink at lunch, mobile phone, any energy gels/sweets, medication).

Please only bring one bag per person and ensure your luggage label is attached. The event team will make sure your luggage arrives at the hotel before you finish your day's cycle.

Lunch and water stops

A pub lunch is included each day, just bring along some change should you want a drink along the way. The pubs have arranged a set menu for our cyclists and the Arrowhead team will co-ordinate collecting your food choices each day!

At our water stops we will be serving bananas, flapjacks, hot drinks and provide water for you to top up your bottle.

Throughout the weekend you will be asked to tick in and out of every stop so we can ensure that we don't have any lost riders!

Ride for Precious Lives

The grand finale

Riders are expected to arrive at Charlton Farm between 1.45pm - 4.00pm on Sunday depending on your speed! Your friends and family are all invited to join us in celebrating the epic adventure you have just completed! The more the merrier - why not make an afternoon of it and bring a picnic!

We kindly ask that all vehicles are on site and parked by 1.30pm at the latest as the drive way will then become a cycle path! Vehicles arriving after this time will need to park at the top of Charlton Farm's drive (postcode BS48 1PE) which is approx. one mile long.

Once everyone has arrived , we will have celebratory speeches and enjoy some beers, ciders and soft drinks. Tea, coffee and cake will also be available!

Don't forget, you will need to arrange your homeward travel from Charlton Farm.

Get social and spread the word
