How your fundraising makes a big difference

Freya's story

Little Harbour means not only a safe and loving place for both her daughters but also somewhere she can get some sleep while knowing Freya is in safe hands.

She can also get the odd few hours to meet a friend in town or spend some time with Zoe – little things that mean the world.

“Freya loves it here,” said Keeley. “She gets excited as soon as we turn off the main road. And for me, it’s like a second home. The support we get from Little Harbour is absolutely fantastic and I really don’t know what we’d do without them.”

Staying safe in the water

  • Familiarise yourself with the rules and regs at the pool – each swimming pool will have its own rules and regulations so make sure to familiarise yourself before diving in
  • Check conditions before heading to open water – the weather and waves can change quickly, make sure the conditions are clear for your swim and don’t go in the water there are red flags
  • Know the dangers of open water swimming e.g. hazards, rip tides, water quality
  • Tell others where you’re going and how long you’ll be, or go with a group!
  • Warm up – get your body ready with some gentle stretching and movements on land before heading into the water for some slower warm up lengths
  • Start slowly – don't try and complete 5k in the first week!
  • Stay hydrated – take regular breaks to rehydrate, you’re still sweating even in the water
