Little Bridge House, which opened in 1995, is a beautiful and homely stonebuilt building in North Devon. It is a peaceful and relaxing environment surrounded by lovely gardens that provide plenty of places to play and enjoy the sunshine.
Families staying at Little Bridge House can enjoy the glorious North Devon coast, and all that it has to offer. The old market towns of Barnstaple and Bideford are nearby, and whilst the hospice is on the outskirts of a small town, our next door neighbours are the cows and sheep!
The idea behind our hospices has always been to provide a home from home for everyone who stays with us, and that includes parents, and brothers and sisters too. So our eight child-friendly bedrooms have minimal medical equipment and are decorated with favourite books, toys and DVDs for each child who stays with us. There is lovely accommodation for the rest of the family too!
The house has plenty of facilities including a main living area that forms the heart and soul of the house, cosy lounges, a messy play room for carefree creativity, a multi sensory room with lights, sounds and textures to soothe and calm, a soft play area for safe, trouble-free fun and a Jacuzzi for relieving stiff joints and muscle spasm.
The teenagers also get their own special space where they can surf the net, play music and be themselves, whilst our games room is a place for chilling out and taking a few minutes to beat dad at pool.
Outside, there is the Narnia sensory garden, which was based on C.S Lewis' magical book 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe'.
The garden is full of features to stimulate all of the senses; sight, sound, smell and touch! The space is well loved by both children and parents as it provides a place to really set the imagination free!
Leilani & Cerys Turner guide us through Little Bridge House and give insight into the hospice's facilities including the hydrotherapy pool, sensory room and the dining room where all families can enjoy a meal together.
CQC Report - Little Bridge House
The care team at Little Bridge House
What we offer is far from the incredibly sad places many imagine hospices to be.
Everyone at Children's Hospice South West gives their all to ensure that children who will not reach adulthood have a safe, happy and relaxing place that they love to visit, and that their parents and siblings get all the help and support they need.
Meet Lisa Morgan-Shaw, care team manager at Little Bridge House. She has been working at Children’s Hospice South West for 17 years and has kindly shared why she loves working here with us.
