Payroll Giving for employees

How does it work?

Payroll giving (also known as workplace giving or Give As You Earn) is a tax efficient and easy way to support Children's Hospice South West.

A £10 donation for a basic rate taxpayer (20%) will only actually cost £8 or just £6 for higher rate taxpayers (40%)!

You choose the amount you'd like to donate and then each payday, your gift will be deducted automatically from your gross salary (after National Insurance but before tax).

This means the tax you would have paid on your donation is also given to Children's Hospice South West.

Please see table below for more examples.

What are the benefits for me?

Once you've set up a regular gift through your payroll, you can rest safe in the knowledge that your donation is being collected by one of the most cost-effective and tax-efficient methods possible. This allows your support of CHSW to go even further.

The system is flexible with the ability to increase your donation, or opt into the comunications you want to receive from us, allowing you full control of your giving.

What are the benefits for the charity?

Your payroll donation will help provide regular, reliable income for CHSW and our work, allowing us to plan ahead and budget for the future.

What are the benefits for employers?

Payroll Giving is a great way for companies to enhance their corporate social responsibility and their commitment to the causes that their employees care about. It is quick and easy to set up and administer with virtually no setup costs.

Companies can also increase the value of their employees' contribution through matched giving, whereby they match an employee's donation by a chosen percentage. Not only does this inspire staff to give more, it also boosts morale within the workplace and raises the company’s ethical profile.

How do I set this up?

Ask your payroll department whether or not your company offers a Payroll Giving scheme. If they do you will need to complete a form, usually available from your Payroll Department or Personnel. Your employer will then pass the form on to a Payroll Giving Agency who will distribute your gift to us.

Go to a Payroll Giving Agency website to:

  • check if your employer has a payroll giving scheme
  • sign up to give from your pay or amend your existing gift
  • sign up as an employer
