Jenny’s special reason for taking on Great Bristol Run
Bristol mum-of-two Jenny Milton will have a very special motivation to reach the first of two finish lines when she takes on the Great Bristol Run this weekend.
Jenny, a member of the Sibling Support Team at Children’s Hospice South West’s Charlton Farm Hospice in Wraxall, will be taking on the city’s much-loved 10k on September 25 to raise money for the charity. After that, she will be lacing up her running shoes again to take on the Bath Half on October 16.
Jenny, from Bishopsworth, hopes to raise £250 for CHSW and said that she’ll be spurred every step of the way by the children and young people she helps support.
Sibling support is an important part of the ‘whole family care’ provided by Charlton Farm. Children with a brother or sister with a life-limiting illness sometimes feel they take second place and often find it difficult to discuss their feelings. Jenny and the sibling team provide support and understanding and give them a chance to step away from their home role, which is often, in some capacity, a role as a carer.
“We support siblings of all ages, from babies to adults and we adapt our approach to match what the family and sibling needs,” said Jenny.
“We offer a wide range of fun activities that give siblings a space to chat and the chance for us to get to know the children and build strong relationships with them. The time we spend together playing games, doing arts and crafts or going for a walk in the woods allows us to find out what things are like at home for them and support them however we can.”
Jenny, from Bishopsworth, is no stranger the Great Bristol Run, having taken part nearly every year since 2006, raising nearly £2,000 for CHSW.
“I’ll be thinking about all the families I’ve been able to support and work with and I know it will keep me going,” added Jenny.
